Would someone translate this mark for me that is in French? "PATES FT EMARUX DE LIMOGES" Also, I use to have a link that took me to where I could type in a word and it would translate it? I can't find it under my Favorites any more. Can you help with that also? Thank you so much.

Thank you, usually. I stored the link under Favorites again. I still have the same problem. I put the phrase in and clicked "French to English". I only changed "pates" to "pastes". I still don't get it. Does anyone know why this mark, "PATES FT EMARUX DE LIMOGES" would be on the bottom of what looks like salt dips? I don't think you could serve a meat pate in them they are so tiny.

I really want them to be salts, but the fact that "pate" translates into "pastes" worries me. I asked the seller for the dimensions because most salts are less than two inches across. I never heard back.

My dictionary says paste is the mixture of clay, water, etc. for making earthenwre or porcelain so that just refers to what it is made of. I don't know French but would guess that the whole thing means a kind of clay and the pieces were made in Limoge.

Påté is served with a small knife, not with a spoon, and usually on a plate or in a small, open "pot"--a ramekin, I suppose--not in a dish shaped like those. There is a chocolate dish served in little cups with tiny spoons, but usually the size of the cups & spoons is more along the demi-tasse size--those look much too small.
"FT" should be "et" which means "and". "Emarux" is actually "emaux"; emaux is the plural of 'enamel' (as in enamel objects). Pates et emaux de Limoges = paste and enamel by (of) Limoges. I assume "paste" refers to the porcelain, or maybe a method of painting or glazing.

Hi, Have you ever heard from the seller about the size of these salts. Right after I posted here I emailed her saying that it would be a good idea to add the size to her listing as I knew someone who was hesitating to bid. Just heard back this morning that they are 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches.
I don't understand why sellers don't give more complete discriptions. If I were looking at something in a shop I would note size, color, any flaws, makers marks and maybe more things. If I am buying without being able to handle the item it is even more important that these things be addressed. A lot of people don't bother to email questions and if you see the auction at the last minute there is no time to receive an answer.
Sorry, that is one of my pet peeves about online sellers.
