There are over 9 million listings out there now. There just isn't enough buyers to go around.

Not to mention, I buy as well as sell and it is getting very tedious to even search through the pages when you see literally hundreds of like items listed before you can see something different.

Some sellers say they are doing great. Others, like me, are doing worse than ever. My last listings had a 5% sell through. I barely made enough to pay the auction fees and still had to package and ship items.

I just checked the auction count charts and October 1 there were 7,800,000 (rounded off) listings. Today there is 9,100,000.

I agree, there are too many items for too few bidders. Ebay is good at attracting sellers but bad at attracting buyers. Ebay makes money from sellers not buyers so they can care less.

I'm with you tooltimes.

I do know I kinda had a sick feeling when a "womens home based business seminar" came to town and they advertised that you can earn $$$$$ staying at home and selling on Ebay. They advertised on radio every hour and on TV. I thought geez that is all I need even more competiton at the yard sales, thrift stores and auction sales. I now see people pick something up and say-" I wonder how much I get for this on Ebay"

Instead of complaining on this board why not send a complaint email to meg at ebay I think it would do more good. If she got 9,000,000 plus emails complaining it would get some results.

nightman, what kind of complaint? ebay advertises trying to pull in buyers...they have the sellers....what do we complain about?

what we need to do is weed out the bad buyers and sellers and the rest of us will do better...

people at work come up to me almost daily asking if they can safely purchase on ebay and what they should watch out for as far as sellers go

one lady purchased a racing engine for her son a month ago...paid $2200. to a man one state away and still nothing...I told her to call the police in his area...do a chargeback on the charge card and file a complaint about him with ebay...I also told her to give him negative feedback that he is a crook!

these sellers are scaring bidders away...so are the sellers who do not guarantee delivery on their items that are lost or damaged in the mail...

in other words...as sellers we are shooting ourselves in the foot...who do we file that complaint with?

I will not recommend ebay to anyone either. The incident rate of ripoffs and unmet expectations at ebay is way too high to lose friends over by saying that ebay is a safe and fun place to buy stuff. Many friends want me to bid and buy something on ebay with my account and now I say no way.

People buy the stupiest things on ebay sometimes. They pay more for the same item that is available at Walmart, and then pay the shipping costs as well. Buy locally whenever you can. You want a used car? Check the classified ads in your paper. There are way too many unnecessary ebay purchases being made that can be bought locally.

Many items can be bought at sites like Amazon and that is like buying from a real store with money back guarentees if your purchase doesn't make it to you.

I agree about buying at local stores. It is cheaper 9 out of 10 times, and if you want the convenience then go to the store website and purchase.

If everyone will STOP buying from the big corporate giants who list on Ebay, then listings will come down and us small guys can go back to making a living.

But, hey, that sounds like the Mom and Pop stores before Walmart came to town. We all know what happened to them and I am afraid the same thing is happening here.

One thing I hate is calling up a search for something...say Marty Robbins, and 3/4 of my returns on the search will be British ads. I have to search down page after page to look for American ones and I am not buying from anyone internationally.

I know there is a way to make these not show up in search, but the average buyer is just going to put the words in search and hit go. When they see this happening over and over, they will think Ebay is mainly foreign sales and will quit.

Why doesn't Ebay only show the USA listings on the USA site?

One of the reason for the huge run-up in listings is the Free listing day for fixed price listings. It starting to come down some now.

It's going to go up again with the 20 cent listing fees all of next week for items starting under $1 with no reserves.

There is no way there will ever be another regular FLD at ebay.

Sadly, no has addressed the original question. We have counters at AW that show the people are looking, so, in your opinions, is it the economy, the weather or whatever else that seems to be making eBay generally slow?

I think it was answered. There are too many listings. Even if people are looking, there are just too many choices for them to make and that means less sales for most of us. This will only get worse as listings go up more and more with Ebay incentives such as 20 cent listings for 99 cent items.

i have been bidding on ivory items on ebay, most do not know the difference between ivory and bone or plastic.
or they just mislead the buyers,so why should anyone take ebay seriously and why should anyone pay a premium for the risk they take, many items are not ivory.
how would you like to buy a xmas item on ebay and on xmas day find out it is not as described.
get real
