You know, to support the other sellers?

I haven't bought anything for a long while~that's what a lack of money does. I recently bought my baby guy some dress shirts for Christmas.
The photo showed a pinkish red shirt and it arrived purple. Description didn't state color so I guess it's my fault! I certainly won't be putting him in purple-Dad would not have that!
I have bought myself some patterns and fabrics lately so I'm making some sellers very happy...
Now if only I could sell something.
Here's to a Prosperous New Year for the bidders!

My Wife & Myself purchase all year long and Ebay is the place we check first before we go to any store!

Oh yeah. But I snipe. It's a great place to find collectibles and stocking stuffers especially if you have grown kids who don't need anything.

You bet!
I buy things all year long for Christmas gifts and for myself. This year I bought maybe five items at local department stores. All the rest was from eBay. A great way to find the perfect gift.
Example: A $150.00 perfume item (Joy) for less than $20. Bought two, one for me, one for a gift.
BUT - BUT - BUT - I don't buy to "support" other sellers, I buy because I want the item.

I keep trying!!!
At the last minute my husband's family decided we would draw names this year. Anybody got a good Garmin Gps or a Kitchenaid mixer at a reasonable price? The ones on Ebay are going for as much as they are in the local stores.
However, I've done "quite well" buying all my own presents to myself this year on Ebay! I personally can't stand the store prices on clothes and jewelry anymore.

Hi Glassgrl.
Not sure if this will help in your search but here it is. A link to Kitchenaid's Refurbished appliances page, if you're set on a new mixer.
http://kitchenaid.suresource.com/products.asp?uid=2002121123162868&cat=Refurbished&level=3&key=KTArefurbished
Speaking as one who's been there, done that, Kitchenaid is kinda pricey but an excellent product. My own mixer is a vintage Model 3C. Wouldn't give it up for all the tea in China. Much better than the big fancy new one I sold on eBay...
You should be able to get a 3C for less than $100. Main thing to watch out for is paint damage. These things do suffer chips, scratches, etc. Also write seller first to be sure it's clean. No flour in the motor slots at the back of the head, etc.

I bought my dad's gift on eBay. It was a wasn't an effort to support eBay sellers, it was a case of knowing what I wanted and not being able to find it anywhere else.
I'll probably purchase my brother's gift on eBay too, I've given up on finding anything in the stores, I know I can find some memorabilia on eBay that he's interested in.
The internet is one big shopping mall, and eBay is the biggest store in the mall.

Haven't bought anything from eBay. In fact I haven't bought anything from a real store either. I shop thrift and good will and do rather well. We have thrift shop that has half price day on Saturday and you can't imagine what they have. I wear turtle neck tops and they sell NWT for $2.25. I wear them all winter. Other than that tonight I finally went Christmas shopping. Yks even at 50% off plus my 15% Senior discount the prices are still high.

I would have liked to buy gifts on eBay, but no eBay seller had the high-end Bose noise-cancelling headphones my partner wants for Christmas.
I'm ordering Mom a sweater from Coldwater Creek, which will be first quality, new and fresh, not a CC return like lots of the CC merch on eBay.
My partner also wanted the Cosmos boxed set, but the only seller that looked reasonable was in Canada, and I won't buy from Canada.
It amazes me somewhat that people find Christmas gifts on eBay, given my experience.

I shop the same way Libra63 does most of the time, but have gotten a few things off eBay for my little boy...

wgm: Slightly off subject, but I really love the quote you've got here. The older I get, the more I realize that, if we scratch the surface of any human being, we find problems that don't show on the outside.
Some wise person said, long ago, that everyone is doing the best he knows how at any given moment. The more you think about that, the truer it is.
Thanks for your quote; it made me think - again! This late at night! A miracle.

I buy stuff on eBay all year long. This month I've look for a few extra things just for myself, a treat for another successful year on eBay.
One thing I purchased recently that I really like is a battery operated 30-pound digital postal scale. I was using a 25-pound food scale since 1998, decided it was time to go modern and be more accurate with the weight. I purchased from this seller, the*phoenix, and I can tell you I really like the scale.

Roadsmith - thank you very much! I really appreciate your comments also. It is so true. You never know where someone has been or what they have been through...it's all relative.
You have definitely made my night a little brighter

Yes, yes! I bought about 50% of my Christmas gifts on Ebay. I hate shopping at the stores this time of year. I have absolutely no patience with long lines and crabby people. Ebay was a great solution!

Buy gifts, NO. I buy (military items) for resale @ local shows. SOme items I purchase are less expensive on Ebay that I can buy wholesale.

Yep- Needed an out of print set of James Bond Dvds (Collection 3) Couldn't find them ANYWHERE, locally or toherwise.
Amazon had one used set for around $400.00
eBay had four NEW sets varying from $200-$300
I did buy several videos for gifts from Amazon Marketplace sellers as well.
I need *ONE* stinking item from Walmart, and I dread the trip.

Replay: Probably too late to help you out this year, but I bought my grandson's toys I wanted from Walmart -- Harry Potter lego sets at Walmart's website last week. Received them in 6 days and couldn't be happier!
I had to pay an extra $6.95 shipping, but worth every penny to stay away from that place this time of year.

I really like to support ebay sellers whenever possible, but this Christmas I bought the Go Video DVD/VCR at Target on sale for $133, and bought some new clothes at Ross. I don't buy clothes on ebay because I need to try them on, very picky clothing buyer.
That was the extent of my Holiday shopping. We eat out at a very expensive restaurant to celebrate Christmas and don't spend much on gifts.
This year I woke up to the fact I don't really need to buy much, I gave up collecting, and books & videos I find during my hunts at the thrift stores, so I have less a need to shop on ebay. However, I did look for some specific t-shirts on ebay and the sellers "about me" page said "please do not bid up high, the start price is the retail price and we always relist items so just wait." The bids went above her start price, so I am waiting until she relists.

We sure did. Not to support other sellers but because there were some GREAT buys on fantastic items.
We bought NWT clothes for our two granddaughters; china for our son and DILs set; a few vintage Snoopy items that our DIL will love; vintage pewter S&Ps for a friend who collects them; new bar related items for another friend; unusual peppermills for our son's girl; new fabric for our DIL; crystals for a friend who collects them and hangs them on her Christmas tree; a hand painted XXX that a friend was admiring while we searched ebay together; like-new books for our granddaughters; handpainted plates and bowls for my MIL; new CD's for her boyfriend; want me to go on?
Wonderful things that were easily found on ebay and paid for with PP. Couldn't be happier. So much more fun than selling.

I haven't done my shopping for most as I am flying out tomorrow and will be away, so ebay is out of the picture. However, given that, I probably would not use ebay anyway. The postage fees are too high - and I am not talking about the seller, I am talking about the post office or UPS. Electronics like VCR's and DVD's are so cheap here, why bother paying shipping. If I were going to buy an expensive item like a computer, no way I would buy on ebay. Too many horror stories and potential problems. I don't buy too many things on ebay anyway except collectible type things which I can't get at the mall, target or wal-mart.

Linda K:
Shopping is much more fun than selling. I definitely agree with you there!
I love to shop on Ebay and usually buy several items a month all during the year, and am very rarely dissatisfied.
ahc3: Glad to hear there are some around who still look for the collectibles. I wish there was a site like the old Ebay where that was practically all they had listed. It was much more fun to browse through the pages back then!
Still, I find great bargains on Ebay for practically everything. My grandson loves the tv ads and everytime something new pops up for the 8 year old set he runs to me with the phone number. I can usually find it on Ebay for half what the TV ad asks, and the shipping is usually less as well.
Electronics...I agree. I don't think I would dare, and besides, they are cheaper locally.
