Apparently a huge amount of fake emails went out in the last few days, I got one concerning my "inactive account" yesterday and one last week about a "customer service survey" with a link to a website that asks for password info. Apparently a large amount of unsuspecting people filled these out and their I.D.'s have been hijacked with fake auctions. I even read on the safetly board that someone sent a cashiers check to a po box in Tenessee and now suspects it was a fake auction.

Why isn't Ebay notifying it's users? Why aren't they being proactive about this? It's pathetic. Go look at the Safety Board.....

This is not an example of ebay ID's being hacked. This is an example of stupid people giving out personal information to a web site that is not connected with ebay, and not thinking it through (like why would ebay want my social security number, or my debit card number and password) There is a difference. Stupid people always have and always will be parted from their money, there is no cure. Accounts that are hacked are done so without any particular action by the owner. I feel sorry for those people.

ahce You said it - it isn't eBay's fault, they are a business, not a baby sitting service.

Oddly, my ID & my e-mail address are the same, and I haven't gotten any of this type of mail.

Libra That is interesting, but it still isn't eBay's responsibility to hold the hands of their customers.

I'm sorry about those who fell for such.

Most every site you go into that requires a password always tell you never give out your password and the site that requires the password will never ask for it. It is because as human beings we never read the whole article and if we did we would know that those are scams. No I am not grouping everyone into this because there are some of us that take the time to investigate the spam emails that we get and others just read the first line and respond.

We are in a world of scam artists that don't want to work but still want the good things in life and then they try and take them away from people that are honest. We need to be more descreet with information that is only relevant to us and only us. Remember never give out your passwords.

Have a nice weekend......
