I know books, music recordings, and videos can all be shipped by media mail. But I'm not sure about computer software or video games (software).

From the pages of the USPS..
Media mail "Generally used for books (at least eight pages), film, printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, and computer-readable media. Advertising restrictions apply."

I'd be willing to bet that far more than half of the Media Mail packages being sent donot fall within the USPS guidelines. People merely rationalize away the vague USPS definition.
