I just received my second neutral in a week for slow shipping. Both times I shipped the same day the money arrived. I asked both buyers why they left a neutral when they could see by the postmark on the package that I shipped the same day the money was "paypalled". In both cases they respond with "that's why I didn't leave a negative - because I knew it was the fault the post office." Well, how nice of them to think that my feedback profile is viewed by the customer service department at the Post office. I'm sure they are really going to do a better job now!

Well, all I can hope is that you left them something just as good. This kind of dense thinking deserves its own reward. Neg them!

A classic example of why the buyer should leave feedback first. If the feedback is inaccurate or unwarranted then the seller can educate the buyer of the proper feedback to leave. The education process is aided by a painful neutral or negative return feedback. Otherwise the buyer may continue leaving bad feedbacks.

I have had the same problem. 1 (in earlier post) because package took 42 days to arrive because first payment got lost in the mail, only took a week to arrive. Buyer admits it was not my fault, but she was being "truthful". Second neutral came from buyer who "forgot package was coming from Canada". I agree with tooltimes, never give feedback first, it gives you no recourse. Hopefully if these "quick to give neutral" buyers get a few negs, they will THINK first!

You're lucky it was only delayed. If they had damaged it, you would probably have gotten a neg. It happened to me.

Well, from all that I see with many new Ebay Buyers they are the most critical in every aspect of the buying transaction, which I get the feeling that they are "PERFECT?"..........
My biggest problem with my feedback is the post office and how they do there job.
I have stated in my auctions, and in my shipping email ............to please judge me by my work, not by the way the post office does there job.............but nobody listens..........My neutrals and Negs are from slow delivery but not by ME!........by the post office.
A Buyer gave me a Neutral, saying ........nice person, slow delivery......well made me crazy naturally, so I went and gave her feedback..........saying.........NEG, nice person but doesn't read Auction Listing. Now it was her turn to go crazy on me, saying .......I paid, why the NEG. Neg is for someone who don't pay.............I said, yes that is correct, but how do you like getting what you don't deserve.............tell me how does it make you feel, .......WELL THAT'S EXACTLY HOW I FELT WHEN YOU GAVE ME A Neutral..........
But as I see it, this will keep happening, and never get any better.
So believe me..............I know exactly how your feeling, ...........
That's why the SELLER should never leave feedback first............I don't care what anyone says.......

This is where delivery confirmation comes in handy. You email the bidder the DC # the day you ship it and they get it in their heads that USPS has responsibility for item now and not you. It cuts down on alot of the "slow shipping" comments.

tomservo98...............you are exactly right.............and that's what I have been doing now. I feel so much better knowing that I can at least show my buyer that I have done my part................now its in the hands of the post office, and if I still get bad feedback..........then it's the problem of the buyer..........not being able to see what is right.........and I will give them there deserved feedback right back.
"No more mister nice guy"........you get what you give.....right or wrong I just don't care anymore.

Honestly, all these whiny posts about how it's unfair you got bed feedback, so you should NEVER give feedback first, well, they are the height of hypocrisy from a bunch of sellers who don't have the least bt of trust in their buyers.
Lemme get this straight. They send you money. You hold it until you know the payment has cleared. Then you send it. If anything is lost, you blame the buyer for not buying insurance. If they leave neutral feedback b/c the item did not live up to expectations, you neg them. My goodness, eBay is the one of the only succesful businesses in the world where it is assumed that the buyer is a crook until proven otherwise! The only business-place where the seller has all the power.
And all you do is cry about it! Because you are so caught up & afraid of getting a DESERVED nuetral or negative feedback. You're very insecure and defensive if your response to the the slightest criticism is to complain about the person criticizing you!
For all the sellers who come here complaining about "feedback blackmail," (while never leaving feedback first) it's ironic that between all of you that at least one of you doesn't realize that you ALWAYS engage in feedback blackmail, as a matter of business. I think it'd be better if eBay ignored any feedback left after a Neg. comment, then EVERYONE would stop being so afraid to leave it.
Until then, try completeing one transaction where, after holding the winning item hostage, follow it up by NOT engaging in feedback blackmail.

FEEDBACK FUNNIES
I did a search on feedback I had left to check up on a question from a customer and found that one of my whacked out buyers who left me negs because she didn't like the way I combined shipping actually responded to the positive feedback I had previously left her with negative comments abount me.
Strangely - her nes feedback to me no longer bother me now that I know that the shipping charges obviously tormented her existance so badly that she felt the need to go into her own feedback and leave derogatory comments. The child has some serious issues and I will now get a little giggle whenever I see my neg total.
(FYI - she got $15 items for under a dollar and complained about $2 shipping charges)

FOR THOSE THAT WAIT ON ME TO GIVE YOU FEEDBACK... WELL JUST KEEP ON WAITING, I NEVER GIVE THE SELLER FEEDBACK FIRST.

JROME........your doing quite a lot of whining yourself..............especially since you don't understand how the feedback system works............no such thing as holding hostage for feedback ............
First.........buyer sends payment
second.....check is not held for bank clearance, but item is shipped on the shipping days as stated in auction.
Third...buyer complains in feedback about slow delivery...........why because the post office took too long to do there job. But my shipping time was quick.
Fourth....buyer blames Seller for slow delivery.......dose this makes sense to you? because it doesn't make sense to me.
Fifth, The buyer is the one who receives the item and NOW, it makes this transaction completed. Until the buyer receives the item this transaction is not completed.
Just because a buyer sends payment what does that mean, he should get a medal, He just did what he agreed to do when he placed his bid.
So, Now tell me why should a buyer leave a seller Nautral feedback because of how the post office did there job,..................isnt it .........how the SELLER does there job??????? it is my feedback, why should I hear about how bad the post office is in my feedback, it has nothing to do with me.
Plus, if the package gets lost and the buyer didn't take out insurance...........then I am the one who sends the buyer back there money, I don't say......well, sorry, you didn't take out insurance...............
So again i will say, The buyer leaves feedback first, if they don't like it .....well fine don't leave feedback.........but if they leave me a feedback that is not fair..........well they will get the same in return.......only because they are not using good judgment and rating me for how i did my job.......I have never gotten a bad feedback because of something I have done, but I seem to be the one responsible for what the post office does. This I don't like.....thats all im saying

If the buyer doesn't leave feedback then they get none back. The feedback system stinks anyway so that is a good way to boycott the lousy system.
As a buyer, and I buy a lot of stuff on ebay, I always leave feedback when I receive the item. On a few very rare occassions I've received an item that wasn't as it was described then I will not leave a feedback rather than leave a neutral or negative.
You need to go back and read this thread again. Nobody is "whining" about "deserved" negs. If I screw up and get a neg then I chalk it up to a lesson learned. But if I do everything I can to satisfy the bidder and still get a negative or neutral, especially over something that is totally out of my control, then I have a legitimate gripe and that bidder gets exactly what they deserve in a corresponding neg or neutral (or no feedback at all).

TONIMAR AGAIN I APPLAUDE YOU! YOU SPELLED IT OUT P E R F E C T! IT'S OVER WHEN T H E Y GET IT AND LEAVE T H E I R COMMENT....A FOOL SELLER WOULD LEAVE IT FIRST...WHEN THEY NEG. OR NEUT. YOU, YOU ARE SCREWED...IF THEY SAY NOTHING,WHO CARES. THEY MUST HAVE BEEN HAPPY AND WENT ON THIER WAY.....END OF STORY...

As a seller, I consider the transaction completed when I return feedback the buyer has left for me, or at the end of 90 days when the auction is purged from the database, whichever comes first.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Amen sparkz. Well put. There are far too many new buyers that do not know that when a sellers leaves a positive feedback that they should not give back an unfair feedback because they are safe from any future feedbacks from the seller. The feedback system should teach the new buyers about feedbacks and not punish veteran sellers.

ONLY THING I DO AGREE WITH IS THAT NUETRALS SHOULD BE DONE AWAY WITH... THOSE ARE ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS... IF YOU CAN'T LEAVE A POSITIVE, THEN A NEGATIVE IS IN ORDER.

I leave positive feedback when I receive the payment. That's ALL the buyer is required to do! The rest is up to me.
I don't hold checks to clear (had ONE bounce in over seven years!) and I ship as quickly as I can. Never over 48 hours after I've been paid.
I drop them a note (through AW system) when I get the payment and another when I ship the package.
Then I move on to the next transaction. If I get a feedback comment from the buyer, fine. If not, I don't go begging for one and I certainly don't play "No feedback for you if you don't give me one!".
Again, the buyer's ONLY responsibility is to pay.

Why are you all sweating feedback?
Once you hit 100 you're home free, if that doesnt establish your bonafides your prospective buyer is an idiot and you're probably better off without them.
Since I got to 100 I give feedback when I see I've gotten it - as buyer or seller. I let the other guy leave it first and respond appropriately.
