I have several pieces of nice furniture I would like to sell. I am having a hard time deciding the best way to go.
I have sold some furniture before at a local auction and was very disappointed at the final price. I expected it to go wholesale since resellers are at the auctions but in my area very nice items at auction are going
way below wholesale.
I have thought about selling it on ebay but have no clue who to use to ship the items or how to pack the items.
Does any one have any advice on the best way to sell furniture?
I am also thinking of a local consignment shop or asking an antique store if they would sell it for me.
Or how about an estate sale?

For ordinary contemporary furniture, the consignment shop, or an estate sale (with a very well thought out newspaper ad) would probably be your best bet. For antiques, find an auctioneer who specializes in this. They have the clientelle lists and can draw the right caliber of customer when they have an auction. For VERY high end antiques, you could try online auctions. Be sure to get a worst case scenario shipping quote to mention in your auctions or encourage bidders to email for a quote before bidding. Shipping isn't cheap, but for exceptional items, customers will go for it. We have a poster on this board, Daleeric, who sells high end antiques and has this technique down to a science. If you can coax them out of the woodwork, they would be a wealth of information.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
