I sent a Global Express Mail package to Italy on January 10. I traced it on the US Postal Web Page. It arrived in Italy on Thursday, January 16 and has been in customs ever since. Is this excessively long or the normal amount of time? The buyer doesn't seem to be concerned, I have kept him updated, but have received no reply. I gave the buyer the label number so he can trace it, as well. I would appreciate hearing other sellers experiences with foreign customs. Thanks for your time.

I am a Canadian seller who sells Internationally, and I have found that since 9/11/01 customs have taken a lot longer, things are understandable more carefully checked, and it all takes time. I have found people to be quit patient. Of course, you get the odd ones who complain, I just tell them why.

Depending on how I fill out the customs forms packages can go through quickly or can hang around for as long as a month.
Each country has their own quirks. Things that hold packages up are customs forms, size of boxes, working habits and new security laws. Packages I have sent to and received from Italy take about four weeks.
