I have been a good student. I checked my Kovel's book of marks, checked all other books I have as well as checked with my limited online resources and couldnt find what company this is. Can someone PLEASE help me find any id on this mark. It is on the bottom of a retangular covered dish made of china.
If there is any books I should be looking at for researching this kind of thing that I havent already looked, I would appreciate your sharing the title. I feel so bad coming here asking for help I know everyone is so busy with their own auctions.
Thanks so very very much
(oops, forgot to add the scan)

Hi: I don't have a clue (except that the mark seems to be for the letters F and G), but I'm bumping this up because I JUST KNOW Kiara will be able to help!

Maybe if you show a piece of the china or pottery we could be of more help.

Possibly an early E.F. George mark? I agree, a shot of the item itself would help identify it.

Has me stumped too. Try Replacements Ltd. Send to [email protected] If they don't know it, I haven't a clue where to go from there.

Kiara and Sanmar, Geez, you two are my experts! If you don't know, I my! I couldnt take a foto last night. Too late. I will try to do that this morning. I am going to try to add it to the first post. (hope it works)
My foot is better now. Thanks Kiara, I walk with a slight limp. The doctor said I can't return to work until mid February. (Which means the only way I am going to be able to make $$ for 1/2 month's worth of rent is to sell sell sell)

Ok everyone! I pulled out the digital camera. Took the fotos. Went to computer#2 Uploaded them, then put them on a floppy and took them over to this computer. Posted them on a website and here they are! Whew! Can't wait 'til I upgrade this computer to make it a 2 step process instead of a 5 step.
Let me know what you think. In the mean time, I will contact replacements.
Thanks again!

Hi!
I'm no expert for sure, and I haven't yet hit the nail on the head.
But I've asked a few friends who are knowlegeable an the subject.
And we have come to the conclusion that this item is a dresser box,an item for holding out of pocket items at night or when changing.
It's a rose pattern ( tell us we don't have a keen eye for detail! )
And we believe the letters are: JG
I've found a few (JG) companies from England
Haven't yet pinned down the Mark!
Seems every piece from these companies have a different Mark.

dadofstickboy, thanks so much for trying. I am stumped. That makes sense that it would be part of a vanity set. Just wish I knew the mark. I have tried F G as the mark in searches. Tried websites. Even emailed replacements.com with no results. ANY thoughts on this are greatfully appreciated.

Your box reminds me very much of the ones in this book on auction. If you look at Item # 3110756221 and supersize the picture for the dresser boxes you will see similar.
People get the blanks and paint on them or put transfers on them and I believe they can also put marks or stamps with logos and initials on them. The mark on yours reminds me more of a pottery mark than a porcelain mark.
I think it used to be advertised in magazines how you could do this as a hobby and then sell them afterwards. You know the kind with the happy housewife painting and all her friends ooohing and aaahing and next thing the whole neighborhood is painting them. Then they all end up in a closet and down the road they get sold on an estate sale. I guess many still paint these as the book is new.
That's my theory but I could be wrong.

Well, I finally heard back from Replacements.com:
THANK YOU FOR SENDING US THE IMAGE OF YOUR PATTERN. AT THIS POINT WE ARE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY YOUR PATTERN AND WOULD LIKE TO
KEEP YOUR IMAGE ON FILE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. WE WILL NOTIFY YOU AS MORE
INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST AND WE HOPE TO
SERVE YOU IN THE FUTURE.
Oh well I guess I will just list it as is. Hopefully someone will like it. Even if it isn't famous.
thanks so much everyone for trying so hard to help me.

Your lucky they answered you. I email'd them about the Johnson Bros Teapot I had and they never answered back.
I also think it is a dresser box or maybe even a cigarette box. It has a pretty pattern and I think is should do well. Good Luck

I don't know the mark but depending on the size of the item my guess is that it is a cigarette box. Here's a sample of a franciscan cigarette box: http://collectibles.goantiques.com/search/images.jsp?id=97794

Thanks so much for your input. It measures about 5 1/2 inches across, 3 inches wide and about 2 1/2 deep with lid. I hope that helps
