I see he is now NARU but....
Maybe everyone just jumped the gun. He did say nothing would be shipped for some time and no one was waiting to see.
Last year I ran across a magazine seller. His ads were fantastic. Everything started at 1 penny and I wound up winning over 20 magazine subscriptions for under $50 (including $2.00 handling fee per subscription) before he was kicked off.
I suspected I might not see the magazines, but I was willing to take the gamble. I bid in May and he said in his ads that it would take up to 60 days to start receiving the magazines. At that time, I decided to just experiment and see what happened.
Some of these were for 3 years so it was a great buy.
I bid in May and by June he was NARU because of all the people who left feedback and turned him in because they did not have their magazines yet. Well, he said we wouldn't receive them until 60 days....and surprise! In a little over 60 days they started rolling in.
I now receive some great magazines...ESPN Sports, Sports Weekly, Rolling Stones, Premier, Interview, Crochet Weekly, Country Music Weekly, Blender, Woman's Day, US, and many many many more. It was a wonderful deal and I guess he never did get reinstated because I can't find his ads anymore.
He didn't rip anyone off...people just didn't read the TOS and wait as they were expected to.
As far as cancelling the sale and this guy still cashing the check...how many of you would let someone out of the sale just because they wrote and said they changed their minds? Maybe he had already cashed the check? After all he was cashing them before the drop shipment was to take place. And, because he is NARU you won't ever know if they actually received their items or not.
Who would have thought I could buy three years of Rolling Stone for a penny? And get it?
Now, I'm not saying he is honest, or that these people will ever see their item. I'm just saying it all happened before he had a chance to follow through. IMO people weren't too smart to pay him the huge amounts they did...but once they had paid they should have at least waited to see if he came through. There's a big difference in a penny and $1,000 so there is no way I would have bid on one of his items when, after reading the ad, it seemed to good to be true.
But, people started saying they hadn't received their items and leaving negs before the date he had included in the auction for shipment. Is he a crook? Possibly...but the people who bid are a little guilty as well They shouldn't have complained till after the ship date they agreed to in the first place.

If you are doing drop shipments this is the biggest problem as you have no conrol over when they are shipped. Does this make them a crook? No! but buyers do not bother to read as to when the goods will be sent out in that time frame.
This is why I never get involved in drop shipping, no control.

I'm not sure. My computer died and I lost all my email and bookmarks. I couldn't find any seller with one cent starting prices for magazines when I started over with the new computer.
They had over 1,000 listings and all started at a penny. That was how I got them all so cheap. I would bid $.25 and if I got outbid go find the next listing for the same magazine.

I looked up midwest magazines and it looks like they didn't sell anything after Feb of 2002. I bought mine in May so it might have been someone else. I know they were still getting feedback at the time I bought mine...not all good, but they were honest and Ebay and everyone else lost a great deal by kicking them off!

lindajean: So what do you think might be a solution to this problem?
Buyer impatience is not something easily cured.
The only solution I can see (as always) is to completely redo feedback but eBay has already stated their intention of leaving it just as it is.

If you cannot file FVF until 10 days after your NPB notice perhaps something similar for negs.
I have heard (thank goodness it hasn't happened to me yet) about newbies posting negatives the day after the auction ends and for many silly reasons.
Especially if they are going to start showing our negs on the front page maybe they could be a little more supportive in reducing unwarranted ones. Make you jump a few hoops to get there and read about being sure of what you are doing...then wait a few days to cool off!
Wouldn't help this guy or the magazine seller but would help some. I wouldn't drop ship for anything. I think you are asking for trouble and since I have tons of stuff I want to sell before I quit Ebay my biggest fear is one of those unwarranted NARU's for some silly problem like I have read about over and over and over!

I believe the reason Midwest was kicked off ebay, was that he was selling his business opportunity for something like a penny and in his ads, he stated just bid and you will receive the info. He also mentioned that you didn't have to really pay him for the info. He was flooded with business inquiries/bids, but was selective with who he offered the business to. Funny thing is that this guys ads sure did remind me of Midwest. Who knows, perhaps this guy narud himself from ebay to put himself out of misery.
