I sell mostly consignment items for friends. There's a really wide range of items and was just wondering (from folks who concentrate on one or two categories)...What items/categories seem to do well all year (including traditionally "low-sales" summertime) and what items/categories do best when offered during the more "high volume" times? I've been selling now for about 4 years and tend to hold off listing my "better" goodies until Sept./Oct. but have been wondering if that's a good strategy. Thanks for your thoughts/opinions/advice.

I'm going to take the summer off, starting one week from today. I plan to travel a bit, and think about my strategies for the Fall and Winter selling seasons. I need a nice, loooooooooong break.

For those who continue to sell through the summer, I wish you much success. You can have the book category with my compliments! Until September (she types with an evil grin.)

I agree with mypostingid - take the summer off.

If you are selling consignment items, you will be doing a disservice to your consignors because you won't be able to get maximum dollar during the summer months, whatever the item is.

I think of my eBay sales as being a seasonal business. I make most of my profits during the winter months, and I now spend the summer months buying and doing fun things that involve getting out of the house and away from the computer. I list just enough to maintain a $1000 minimum quota for being a Power Seller, and I can do that with just a few auctions a week, eight or less auctions. And I sell the stuff I want to get rid of and out of the house, meaning I don't list my rare, beautiful and desirable until the customers are back in the autumn.

I won't take the summer off but I will save the good stuff for the Fall. I'll use the summer for cleaning out things that I don't really care about and also some things that go well any time. I've already started a "Holiday" box with my green and red glass as well as some high end ornaments. Things that will do really well as gifts, like a Tiffany box I picked up will definitely wait.
