The auction pic, when you supersize the title page, it says:
Copyright 1929
by author XXX XXXXX
First Printing Feb 1929
"title of the book"
Printed in the US
The place underneath copright where it says author is NOT the author's name she says it is, it is by ANOTHER Author, same last name but NOT first name.
Again, there is NO SUCH KNOWN book written by the author she says it is by.

Nope on B & N. Already searched AbeBooks and several private collections that have every book this author has written.
I'm not sure if the seller is just wrong or if she is pulling a scam.
Any book I have here at home has the actual author listed on that page.
She also has one other book by that author up for auction. If this book is indeed written by that author it is the rarest book ever written.

The person mentioned as the author Married a "Hazel" in 1927, and the publisher shown, is a publisher he used for some of his books. There is probably a relation there and it is probably still a very rare book that could be partly attributable to the listed author.
Good luck on getting this book. It will probably go higher, even if written by Hazel.

Why did you black out the last name? It is not illegal to print or copy an authors name. You are not copying a copyrighted piece of material. I suggest that you try The Library of Congress. They have a record of every book published in the USA for the past 200 years. Go to: [email protected]

She doesn't want to draw attention to the auction in case it is a rare book going for a low price. I don't blame her.

My first thought (assuming the author was male) was that he died and his wife (Hazel) copyrighted the book. Do you know when the listed author died?

He never married, but I'm not sure about his brother, who also wrote books.
He died in 1960.
Did you know you can have your public library request a book from the Library of Congress? Mine is requesting the copy of it for me. I found that someone has copied it and I can buy a reprint of it, and since the price is still going up, I'll just read the copy.
But, talking to someone who is in charge of the private collection of that kind of books, there are still a lot of books that they are looking for. Mostly written back in the 20's and 30's, by authors even I've never heard of. So don't throw those old books away, list them!

It is my understanding he married Hazel, a widow, in 1927, and was quite close to her until she passed away in 1957.
He passed away in 1960 like you said.
