Hi,

I don't know anything about your set but here are the pictures.

Oh, you had the ending bracket uppercase instead of lower. Like this - }, instead of this - ].

Thank you so much. It was obvious I had done something wrong but couldn't figure out what.

parkman, that looks like a good set.

If sparkz shows up he/she may be able to help you with it.

I believe it is a coffee set. Arabian coffee is extremely strong and somewhat bitter so it is enjoyed in small doses with figs to ease the bite.

The tree and crossed swords on the pot also are seen on the Saudi flag. I would think that it is more along the lines of something sold to tourists except that S.A. does not allow tourism (limits western influence on their culture) with the exception of once a year when they throw open the gates to allow Muslims to make their haj to Mecca. Perhaps this is made to sell during such a time.

Sparkz may be able too add some more insight. Many times including the history behind items helps the sale. Hope this helps a little.

Thank you for that information about the coffee..that is interesting and I will certainly include it in the listing. The lady I got it from said it was sent to her by a friend from Saudi Arabia so it may have been bought at their one time a year sale. Do you have any idea what category would be good?

Thanks for your help kiara and neonmania. I will list it soon and see how it does. I don't have a lot of money invested so hopefully I will make a little.

There was a thread here about 2 months ago about almost the same exact set.

Parkman...It's a coffee server set. Hosts in SA serve "shots" of very strong coffee to guests, much the way we would serve a shot of bourbon to a close friend. Since alcohol is outlawed in SA, they use coffee that will stand you on your ear. Many of these sets find their way to the U.S. via students in this country or Aramco and other oil company employees returning. If there are any Arabic markings on the bottoms of any of the pieces, try to get them translated and put the translated words in your description. Especially if is shows SA as the place of manufacture. Most of these sets were made in Egypt or Morocco. About the best category I could find is cultures & religions: religions: Islamic. Open this auction up for international bidders. Also, the fact that "Saudi Arabia" is spelled out in English suggests that it may have been made to target an English speaking market. Possibly as souvenirs for American and British troops that were there during the Persian Gulf campaign? If it were indeed manufactured in SA, it would be a fairly rare piece and should bring a good price.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I really appreciate your help. There are some markings on the bottom of the pot so will see if I can find out what they mean or at least list it with a picture of it. Thanks again!!

Hi
My set was the thread, but mine was more generic, i.e. it had no Saudi marking.
I do have a silver set that has the double swords and tree, but my mom does not want to sell that one,who can blame her, it's well made.
I sold mine for 9.99 in brass etc.
But...it was ripped off on June 3...with two other ebay packages and my wallet.
So my anxious bidder may bid!
She took it well...sigh.
Best of luck!
ps There is some tourism, but I can't guess for what market that was made...maybe us Expat types who complained about the heat and took money home by the truckload....hehehe...but I was just a kid back then...those days are changing.

Japerton...Check that silver set of your mother's very closely for any marks and get them translated. I had a small silver plated server that had " Oman" (in Arabic) on the bottom. Where I screwed up was not opening it up to international bidders. I got an email from a bidder in Brunei wanting to bid and I said go ahead. He ran the price up to nearly $100.00. It was finally won by a college professor on the east coast who was from Oman. I can't stress how important it is to get every Arabic marking translated. As I said in the previous thread, a single word can be worth a hundred dollars, especially if the character denotes a prophet, country, tribe, or lends some provenance to the piece. The person who translates can usually give a good idea of age also.
