.... without being being a complete smart ass.
Question for seller ... What is your reason for selling this?
We are talking about a minor collectible item that will close for between $50 and $75...
BTW - anyone see the new "Do you know the way to do eBay?" commercial? No moose heads this time

Fenix.. Tell them that your parole officer informed you that you are not allowed to possess it and that you must dispose of it immediately.

I saw the new ebay TV commerical 'Do you know the way to ebay?' ( instead of San Jose ) twice today.
It makes little sense at all like the other previous TV ads. I suppose the aim is to get the name ebay out there and fresh in the minds of buyers.
Have you noticed how many Google searches result in current ebay search results? Ebay is doing something to get those Google results. It could be that ebay may try to buy Google the same way that they bought Paypal. Then ebay could really taylor the results to show more and more ebay items.

Ace - I think all of the more than a little annoying searches results that come up not only in google but also in Yahoo searches are they result of ebay affiliate fee seakers more so than ebay bribing the companies. Ebay pays a fee to referring sites that bring in new registrants that place a bid or launch an auction in 30 days I think (or is two weeks - my brain is at 50% tonight) All you have to do is grab a cheap domain and target popular searches.
They annoy me to no end and I wish that they could be filtered out - trememndous time wasters.

Is it glass? If so, tell her you're selling it because your cat knocked it over and it broke into thousands of tiny pieces and even though you spent weeks carefully gluing it back together, it just doesn't look the same to you and doesn't function as well as an ashtry.

How about "Have you always been this nosy?"
or "it's the easiest way to get rid of stolen goods"
Or seriously, you could say something like "I'd rather not get into personal issues, but I need the money."
Afterall everyone needs (and/or wants) more money. This person is probably just worried about something, and is looking for reassurances that you're not selling it becauses it's damaged or fake or whatever his or her particular concern is.

Why am I selling this wonderful widget? Because I've lost all reason. I've thrown caution to the wind. My ex-lover's girlfriend's third cousin gave it to me on our four-day anniversary. She was murdered by her high school sweetheart who she had left when he lost his arm in a bowling accident. After hearing of his daughter's murder, her father had a heart attack, falling on the pet Siamese cat crushing it to death. So you see, it brings back too many memories of our love and I need to get it out of my house. Please help me heal by buying this widget. Thank you.

I never understood this question... isn't it obvious, to get some cash.
I do get asked this, and I believe it is because the buyer themself would never part with it... so how could you? I always just say that I am not able to use the item, or I have a duplicate. If they haven't guesses that I bought it just to re-sell, I am not going to tell them.
