Jack, it may take a few more years to get to 'paypal' mandatory, but it is probably coming.

I know people who are still very afraid of putting any personal info on the net. Who knows? They might prove us wrong and them right - YA KNOW??

I switched to paypal only payments 8 months ago. I've had no lose of business. The only thing that was lost is the waiting for money orders to come in.
At the same time I switched to all "buy it now" items in dutch auctions.
In each one of my auctions in large print I enter( PAYMENT BY PAYPAL ONLY )

I dropped PayPal a couple of years ago because of all the problems they caused folks at the time--and their practice of changing rules with little or no notice (& even sometimes making changes retroactive).

Has all that changed with them? I really like the idea, but they were just too big a PITA. It would be great if they've cleaned up their act.

Do you know what a rant is jack? He is right it was a nice rant, nothing more...

Each seller has their own preferred methods of payment, yours is no better than theirs... you want paypal only... then put that in your TOS... nothing wrong with that...

Paypal is fine if you are located in the US. Otherwise as well as the usual fees you get shafted for an extra 5% on the exchange rate. There is no seller protection outside the USA. Apart from those couple of points I have found paypal to be smooth sailing. However I do not want to see paypal become mandatory.

I don't see nothing wrong with venting. Sellers are getting so frustrated with all the BS that venting needs to be done and venting to your spouse just doesn't cut it. Sometimes venting will bring out ideas from other sellers and help the venter. It gets scary when you have a buyer that does send a personal check for a high amount and you wait the 10 days hoping that it cleared, then you come to find out after 30 days it bounced. That makes a mess for your check book and all the people you have paid. It's like a snowball rolling down hill gathering more snow as it rolls and ends up to be a big hill. I love to use PayPal only as most of my sales are PayPal. It's just those sloooooow buyers that think they can wait an eternity

You are right it is ok to "vent" which is the same thing as rant... for more savvy message board users...

However not everyone wants Paypal only and that is the content of the rant...

Paypal only will just get more rants... "They did a CHARGEBACK!" LOL

Here's a prediction, I don't make many.

SOMEDAY

eBay will have a "PayPal only," option. The buyer will only be allowed to place a bid if their email address is registered with PayPal. When the auction ends the payment will be automatic made from the winning bidder's account.

I am glad that Jackswebb started this thread because lately I have so many deadbeat buyers that never sent payment after they claimed they did.

So I just changes my TOS as ~Paypal Only~
I have had it with checks, money orders and failed promisses to pay!

Half the time when I do get mailed payments, they never write anything on it as to what auction it is, hate that too.

NOT gina50 on eBay

I agree with Libra that venting is good at times. The diversity of input and personalities is what makes this board work and Jack does get attention.

He did start by saying OR ANY OTHER ELECTRONIC FORM OF PAYMENT ONLY!

I take all kinds of payments including checks but I do like Paypal and Bidpay. They win, they pay, the package is out the door. So easy.

When it comes down to it, I like Bidpay best... no charge backs and they do the mailing.

Only concern I would have with paypal is the chargeback issue, no matter what they say, if the cc customer is not abusing the charge back system... they will get their money back and who is paypal going to recoup from.... the seller.

I allow Paypal payments for most of my auctions but not for overseas. Each seller has to decide his own comfort zone. So far I haven't had any problems but if I ever do I realize it's the cost of doing business.

Most buyers are honest people and so are most sellers.

I believe that the number of people who have been paying for auctions with paypal is up around 90% - However, I will still accept other forms of payment because if people want to be deadbeats, they will be deadbeats with paypal only. I've had a number of people who say they will pay a few days later because they are waiting for their paycheck. I honestly don't understand why people live like that, but they do.

A recent web news article about ebay had the figure at 70% but it is rising rapidly.

I was being agreeable when I wrote 'Nice Rant!'.
The only problem I have with PayPal as the only payment option is the potential loss of sales from buyers that can not or will not adapt to payment systems like Paypal. Bids are so hard to get these days on ebay that it seems a tad risky to alienate any possible buyers.

I should have clarified, those are MY numbers for my auctions, not all of ebay in general. 70% is still pretty impressive, but my auctions have been around 90% paying with paypal.

I have been thinking of going to PayPal only for my auctions. I just checked the last 100 auctions and 89 paid with PayPal. Out of the other 11 auctions 2 did not pay, the other 9 payed with money orders (I do not take checks) 1 of those was made out to the item name instead of mine and 1 was for the price of the item without shipping.

Most of the PayPal auctions get paid and the item is shipped within 48 hours. No having packages laying around to clutter up my office area which is cluttered up enough. I do charge $1.00 handling charge per auction. It helps to pay the expenses and no one complains.

Hahahhahaha This thread is STILL going?

When I said mandatory I meant mandatory as in When you sign up on e bay you are required to set up a pay pal account also. No ifs ands or buts.

No need for any of the, I take this and I don't take that. PAY PAL. Period.

Many read nothing, they send checks when it is yelled at them,,,WE DON'T take personal checks. Ya get e'm anyway. If you want to do business in the electronic world. All or nothing.

People who pay with pay pal are serious, those with excuses just waste our time.

It turns this rather quick way to sell into a management of auctions and NPB's,,,,,watching the calandar,,, this guy said he was sending a money order, two weeks later? nothing! more e mails,,,more warnings! AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! 20 of these types and you have a real balancing act on your hands.

E bay owns pay pal. More!!!!!! money to them,,,why the feet dragging?

Perfect example from above,,,,I have to wait for my pay check? what a crock! Then don't buy if you ain't got the cash!

Sorta of attempted three years ago ...

According to the Bidville.com ( noBidding.com - AuxPal ) auction history, PayPal and Bidville agree to an oral agreement where the brand new auction in 2000 would have all sellers accept only PayPal and all final bid/shipping amounts would be withdrawn from buyers PayPal accounts. At the very last minute PayPal withdrew from the deal and Bidvile sued.

As NoBidding originally envisioned the site, AuXpal would automatically transfer money from the winning bidder to the seller through their PayPal accounts once an auction ended.
