After 4 Years and many many 000's of sales I got my first Negative recently - the guy had not paid in more than a month and I had gone through the NPB & FV Process, leaving negative feedback afterwards. He left a very blatant "negative for a negative" response........however, reading the discussions here it seems an awful lot really good reputable sellers will now no longer leave negative feedback for fear of just what happened to me. I Wonder is it not time that once you have gone through the NPB & FV route that the other party CANNOT leave negative feedback. His time to squawk is when you file the NPB and if there is a real beef he can raise that. The whole idea of feedback in the first place was it warned sellers of the performance value of buyers and vice versa it warned buyers of irreputable sellers. If reputable people are not going to leave feedback for fear of unabashed retaliation, then where is the value in the feedback ?.......time for a change methinks....

you are right, there does need to be a change to the feedback system.
However, you did the right thing. Reply to the neg that the buyer left and anyone checking will see it for what it is, retiation.
Feedback system is not perfect but it is the only system we have of warning other sellers/buyers.
those sellers that will not leave feedback when it is warranted have heard how I feel on that subject so I won't call them chicken **its again.
by the way, Congratulations on having a perfect record for so long

The best thing to do in that case is to do the NPBA & the FvF cradit but don't leave any feedback. The NPB policy is much more powerfull anyway. It only takes 3, from different sellers, to get the person NARU'd
However some people will leave a NEG when they get the 'ding' from ebay.
We generally don't leave Neg's excpet when we get one. These's no point.

I recently got a neg. feedback removed by eBay because the buyer had invalid email, and I reported it to eBay 7 times. When I sent in the form to have it removed, I noticed that one of the reasons for removal is "retaliatory neg. comment". It is worth a try to get it removed. I am very reluctant to leave neg. feedback any more, if I do, it's is just before the time limit on leaving comments runs out.

Amazon is implementing a change to their feedback system. They are basically dropping all feedback over a year old.
Maybe eBay will take a hint.

Hello, I have over 4500 feedbacks with 6 negs, 3 are from non paying bidders I left negs to, 2 are from crazy people, 1 I deserved I blew a description. so by rights I should only have 1 neg in 4500 sales. Now when buyers look at my feedbacks all they see is 6 negs because all the negs are buried and they don't take the time to find them. Yes, the deadbeats and crazies do hurt a seller and Ebay does not give a rats behind. I never leave a feedback to a non paying bidders anymore. It just hurts my business AND EBAY DOESN'T CARE AND NEVER WILL CARE ABOUT ITS SELLERS.

Yes you are all right -- the world is full of ratbags and I just tripped over one. It's still like your first blot on your schoolbook though....I think the idea of
erasing negatives after one year is in fact quite sensible, anyone who is still going after a year must be fairly serious anyhow !!!

Better than erasing them, just get rid of the number of them. They could make the last 6 month chart go to a year instead and only show the number there.
The percentage rating should only be for the last year too.

First I've ever heard of that. You'd suppose it would be for all feedbacks for all years as many ebayers only get a few feedbacks per year. Ex: ebayer with 6 feedbacks total w/ 4 negatives and 2 positives but a 100% rating because only the 2 positives occured in last year?
