Hi. I won an item on ebay. The end of auction and bid confirmation notices appeared in my vendio customer manager email inbox bearing titles that arrived looking like this:
---
=?ISO-8859-1?B?ZUJheSBJdGVtIFdvbiEgTG90IHZpbnRhZ2UgYmFieSBkcmVzcyBw?= =?ISO-8859-1?B?YXR0ZXJucy1NY0NhbGw/cyxldGMgKEl0ZW0gIzMyNjk [email protected] 01/29/04 18:14 PM

=?ISO-8859-1?B?ZUJheSBCaWQgQ29uZmlybWVkOiBMb3QgdmludGFnZSBiYWJ5IGRyZXM=?= =?ISO-8859-1?B?---cyBwYXR0ZXJucy1NY0NhbGw/cyxldGMgKEl0ZW0 [email protected] 01
---
Vendio customer service replied this:
My apologies, I missed the reference to these showing as the incoming subject Vs showing up within the message itself and appearing alongside the rest of your 'normal' appearing email.

We would suggest contacting eBay to ask why they were sent with this as the subject line, as there is no technology on the Vendio side that has the ability to edit or alter the subject line in any way from how it was sent to you in the first place.
---
Is anyone else having problems receiving gibberish email titles from ebay that is known to be an ebay problem rather than a vendio reception problem? The rest of my emails coming in are fine since then, but those were the only 2 where I was the buyer instead of the seller. How would one go about pursuing this with ebay?

Thanks!

It's a secret code Ralphie uses to figure out what you're buying. He's pretty smart, you know.

I am sure they are trying to tell you that they don't know either. I also have never heard of it. But now don't leave as you will enjoy it here. You will learn about Ralphie and how he can sniff out great antiques, You will also learn that there are a lot of knowledgeable posters and can asswer almost anything. Notice I said almost and I will bet they cannot answer what you asked. It has to be an ebay problem, someone probably forgot to put a function character in.

Hi Passed, it really is a fun group here. It's just that some of us get carried away and forget there maybe a newbie involved. Sorry if you got tussled a little

As for your email. I have never seem one like that. Maybe Meg was having a bad email day?

I did receive something similar yesterday in an "ask the seller a question" format. I almost did not open because of all the garbled characters, but I noticed the address looked valid and could see my auction number.

The message had been sent thru a translator and was from a foreign buyer. Almost missed a good sale because of it.

I brought it to he board because sometimes problems like these are sleepers--early signs that incomplete program integration is producing glitches in back end data transmission. Better to ask when there are only 2 inconsequential buyers emails than after sellers' end of auction titles are arriving scrambled. If this is an ebay problem, there should also be folks receiving garbled titles from ebay directly without CM, and I was hoping to see if there were other cases of this from ebay without vendio program involvement.

Thanks x2. I appreciate the kindness.

I'm sorry, Passed. Didn't realize you would take my comment the wrong way.

You're right - it's always good to bring stuff like this to the attention of the board.

PASSED. I could never understand why some people on this board make a reply to a question they know nothing about. I guess they like to hear themselves talk. Just lighten up and read the posts that make sense and remember this board is about info and fun. If you have thin skin you may not want to post here because sooner or later you are going to get jabbed but mostly its just in fun.

MAY THE LUCK OF THE IRISH ALWAYS BE WITH YOU

Hi All. I always appreciate kindness and attempts to help even if the information doesn't work out. I also appreciate nice people being sociable and having fun in their spare time. I like to have fun in my spare time too.

Unfortunately, my experience with vendio customer service via direct email has been abominable in the past. I have waited for 2+ weeks for even a reply which then comes back looking like the post content wasn't even read, and many attest on the board for Customer Manager questions that it is sometimes longer than that, or months, or never.

That pretty much forces a person to come to one of the boards if they have some sort of vendio-related technical problem, because the customer service system works faster here. If customer service is also unhelpful, all one can hope is that there are smarter people using the program out there with some helpful expertise. That can create some tension between folks who enjoy hanging out for friendly banter, and those who need technical assistance but aren't getting it.

Ebay boards on the various sites frequently have some very sophisticated computer people who lurk around, and some of them are running or building their own ebay API based applications where such glitches like this are routinely dealt with.

My comment about posting being a mistake was not because I am thin skinned, got offended or was unwilling to have fun, it was because it became obvious there were no such people responding to the post--and that makes technical question posts here a total waste of time.

I'll let y'all know if ebay says anything that might help someone else. Then the next time I come back I'll try to do it in my spare time to have fun. Otherwise I'll take it to ebay or the boards at ebay instead. Then I won't have to appear to be such a drudge here. In the meantime, I'll definitely take the luck of the Irish and any other luck I can get.

Thanks again to all who cared enough to post, and good luck on all your auctions.

passedtothepresent, from the time you posted your question to the time you came back with your huffy comment was not that long. There are some technical people that do check in now and again but they may not have been around that evening. Then again, perhaps no one answered because they didn't know either.

You have made about 136 posts so I wouldn't consider you a newbie. The board draws a wide range of people with different areas of expertise and most topics are taken seriously.

That can create some tension between folks who enjoy hanging out for friendly banter, and those who need technical assistance but aren't getting it.

Then the next time I come back I'll try to do it in my spare time to have fun.

Your comments such as those make it sound like you've judged us all as a group of mindless gabbers that never discuss serious topics or offer assistance to others. Not true.

My email provider has an intant notification that puts a box in the corner of the screen when a new message comes.
About half the times the end of auction emails look like that in the instant notification box but then when I download them they are fine.
