Curious if anyone has used an AC power adapter with their Sony Mavicas. Found them for sale on e-Bay and there seem to be no takers in the completed section. Since the batteries have to be replaced after awhile wondered why. Also wonder if the adapter bypasses the battery completely as in the case of hand held TVs etc.

I used an ac adaptor when I downloaded my images because it takes to much battery power and I was buying batteries all the time. I don't remember the camera because it was 4 years ago but I do remember if I didn't buy the adaptor from the place where I bought the camera and something happened to the camera they wouldn't guarantee it. Do you have a somy outlet store near you? If you do go their they are quite cheap. Radio shack also has them and they are very reasonable. Call around before you buy them on eBay, you don't have to pay shipping if you buy it locally.

Libra: Did you have a Mavica 73? What do you mean about "downloading images"? I take my pix using the battery in the camera, turn off the camera, slide the disk out, and I'm through with the camera. Maybe I'm braindead this AM?? (frequent happening!). Sometimes the nomenclature confuses me.

Also, I'd like to know more about needing to replace batteries after a while. My two batteries, which I keep recharging fully, seem to lose power before their supposed time is up. Should I think about replacing them?

I use the power supply/charger on my model 90 when the battery dies. It works just fine. If I remember correctly, my model 70 had an outside battery charger, but the 90 just plugs into the camera.

Have an old FD71 which I bought new back in 1998. It still works great but one battery is about gone and the other has awhile till it too is on the verge of death. These batteries like all rechargable ones need replacements eventually. The charger for the battery by the way is a separate item and not all sony lithium batteries fit all sony chargers. I am sure the AC power adapter is one that only fits Mavicas or certain models.

I have the FD100, and so far so good I do not want to talk about how good my battery has been then poof! it dies, the ac adapter came with the camera and I do use it quite often, probably because I used it all the time with my other camera. I never would have known about this camera if it wasn't for this board I just adore it. My Pictures have been wonderful and I believe I have been receiving higher bids.

I don't have a Sony, I have an Olympus & use an AC power supply that I bought at Radio Shack. It is made for Digital cameras. It is adjustable for whatever voltage your camera requires. I use it whenever I am shooting pics for auction & when I download into the computer. As to rechargeable batteries, Panasonic says at least 500 recharges on their batteries.

A camera store in my area that deals in Sony cameras can order an ac adapter to fit my camera but the problem is that the cost is $150.00. You cannot buy these adapters just anywhere like Radio Shack. The individual on e-bay does have a toll free telephone # on e-bay and I assume is selling "knockoffs" for about $22.00 plus shipping. Supposedly comparable to a Sony made model and apparently legal. The model I have did not have an AC adapter built in ofcourse.

I have a Sony Mavica FD73. Absolutely Love It!! I'm knocking on wood...I haven't had a minutes trouble from it. My lithium battery pack recharges every time and holds a 2 hour charge just like it did when I purchased it 6 years ago. I haven't used a power cord for my camera. If you try one out, let us know.
