long wooden paddle ... groove along each side ... tiny wheel-made? track marks on the surface [reminds me of the mark a fabric pattern marker would make] [hope you know what I'm talking about]
I guessed it was a spanking paddle; husband thinks maybe a portable ironing board. ... I just don't know! ... it's 28" x 10"
Any more good guesses out there?

Elephant Tongue Depressor:
Very common to India's northwest Bahloenie province, the elephant "doctors" wear these like sign-boards, advertising their availability for service.
Working in pairs, one "doctor" stands on the shoulders of the other, shoving this depressor down the pachyderms throat & throwing a bolus of medicine in after!
Of course, the real secret to success in this trade is learning how to get the patient to say: "Aaah!"
Ralphie loves Mr Blonde:
"Are you gonna bark all day little doggie, or are you gonna bite?"

Aint, you shoulda known better than to look here for help! Tom & Pepsi are on a roll.
Seriously, it's kinda big but it does look like it could be the sleeve board from a wall-mounted ironing board. They had metal supports that went through the slots so the board could be left up, out of the way, or lowered for use.
Are there any scorch marks on it? That would be a clue.

Rofl classicrock000 That was my second choice !!
Ok all joking aside....it reminds me of the Slide Board(transfer board) my mother used to get in and out the car with (she was in a wheel chair) hers was made out of wood but had a heavy gloss coat on it to keep from getting splinters.Maybe a antique version of it? Heres a picture of one so nobody thinks I'm nuts

Could be a foot pedal from a large old time spinning wheel.
My second choice would be a kinky prop from a s.m. parlor.

Hi folks! ... I just LOVE all these great ideas. thanks ... I am liking the Mr. Plank Idea ... i could draw a face on it with a crayon ...
here's descriptions of the characters on that show, including "Plank"http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/watch/tv_shows/eds
MsLucy; there's no burn marks on the paddle ... just all these little perforation looking indents ... this is a wood laminate board; does this help 'date' it or anything? ...

I think it is an old Indian skin strecher for muskrat pelts.

Well, plywood's been around for a long time... The built-in ironing boards I thinking of date at least to before 1940. The duplex I own was built around then and has them.
Huh?? Muskrat pelts?????

Themarks you mentioned remind me of a pattern marking wheel for sewing. Could be something they used under their patterns..
