Fluffy, you are my hero, and so are a lot of you others. I have a bizarre buyer situation that's lasted from since before Christmas, when by mistake I sent a buyer two shipments, one her own and one somebody else's. I discovered the error and emailed her; she said she'd sent it back, but she was going out of town and would be back Jan. 3. The other (real) buyer was very gracious and said she'd wait. January 3 came and went, so did February 3; several reminders were sent, and each time the (wrong) buyer said she had no intention of keeping merchandise that was not hers and would send it back. It never arrived. The real buyer backed out sometime in here and I refunded her. Finally I sent the wrong buyer, who still has the merchandise, a PayPal invoice and asked her to pay for it as she was obviously keeping it (we are talking about $100 worth of beads here). No response. So I negged her and said the truth, she was keeping merchandise that was sent to her in error and not returning it after she said she would. Now (about a month later) I get a Square Trade notice saying the buyer would like the negative feedback removed. My feeling is that she should return the merchandise or pay for it, and then I will remove the feedback. I've never dealt with Square Trade before and don't know what's involved once you start their process. I suffered over this hassle; the real buyer suffered too (part of the shipment was a Christmas present), and we have all had considerable trouble because she wouldn't return the merchandise (although saying repeatedly by email that she would). I am not inclined to remove the neg without getting payment or the merchandise as I think she deserved the neg. I admit that it was my mistake in sending her the wrong shipment (of course I offered to reimburse her postage for returning it and give her a free gift as well). If I don't respond to Square Trade, will they automatically remove the negative feedback from her record? Has anyone had experience with this? What would you do?

At least you did admit that you made a blunder. As far as square trade goes they can not make you do anything.
Sounds like the person will not return the second shipment. Can not force them to do so.
Would not do anything till I see the return of the goods or the payment.

Dad is right on. Ignore Square Trade to keep the negative feedback on her. Make sure she is on your blocked bidders list too.

The only time I respond to UnfairTrade cases is when I want to say something that I know the complainant will look at. This is particularly true when the complainant is one of those "you never respond to my emails!" screechers. No matter what the lamebrain's problem, they will eagerly scan the notice sent to them by UnfairTrade, because they think it means they're getting something for free.
UnfairTrade is no mediation service. It's merely a vehicle for whiners and miscreants to use to (they THINK) bully a seller into complying with whatever outrageous demand they've come up with this week.
There is no justice for sellers in UnfairTrade. No live person reads the cases. It's all automated and it's all a waste of time.
manykitty, you did what you could. I had another such, to whom I sent an expensive necklace in error. She wanted me to send her correct inexpensive bracelet before she would return the necklace. I refused, and that is where it ended.
A person who is dealing in good faith simply returns the incorrect item without question and without making further demands. You trust them to do it and they trust you to reimburse the postage. 9 times out of 10 it all works out that way. If it is any comfort I have only been burned by this twice in tens of thousands of shipments, so it's a pretty rare occurrence. All other times the recipient has either returned it promptly or I have urged them to keep it as a gift since I have more. So you may not ever run into this again. We can hope.

If I remember correctly, if you ignore it, they remove the neg. I could be wrong. Tell hem you will consent to the removal when and only when the original package is returned or a discounted settlement offer is paid. Until that point in time, buyer has repeatedly lied to you and you see no reason to remove the neg.

THANK you all for your advice. I have responded to SqT, saying that if she will pay for them by 2/26 (48 hours), I will allow the feedback to be removed. This buyer has caused me a lot of trouble that I think other sellers should know about.
I didn't see an option for just closing the case. There was an option for not participating, but I think I read somewhere that if you don't respond, they can go ahead and remove the negative feedback. Does anybody know for sure if this is true?
