If you use the Post Office's "Click and Ship", is it necessary to literally take the package to the post office if it exceeds 1 pound? There's a Mailbox around the corner, it sure would be nice just to drop off my 1.8 lb. package.

I put anything that will fit into a mail box.
As I recall the restiction was put in place a number of years ago because of a rash of mail bombs. And the restiction only applies to packages with STAMPS. I suspect this is because stamps are untraceable. Where-as the on-line click and ship packages could be traced back to you through the credit card used or the IP address. And I do believe the restirctions are different for packages to military bases, those you may still have to take to the Post office.

From their FAQ's:
Q. Can I drop my online label package in a USPS collection box?
A. Yes, if it has a domestic Express Mail or Priority Mail label with PC Postage service, and you have registered on www.usps.com and paid for postage with a credit card. (It is recommended to always use Express Mail packaging for Express Mail.)
Items without PC Postage service and international pieces must follow existing requirements for deposit and acceptance.

I live in a mobile home park & give my pkgs to the mail person. Never have a problem with that. I have been using "click & ship" quite a bit lately. Unfortunately if I need insurance, I have to go to the PO.
