I do ebay as a "hobby"..past the time, etc..recently sold an item ($1.25)...buyer paid through paypal....was not able to ship out until this morning(about a week past due).."regular job" has had me "away" from the ebay routine...buyer posts a negative and also post a complaint through paypal...only received two e-mails a day apart from buyer asking when to ship...one previous e-mail from buyer asked "how much is shipping?"..which is clearly stated ($5) in the auction...so now I have to resolve complaint through paypal, but because this package went out BEFORE I saw the neg/paypal complaint...I do not have a tracking number....
Any suggestions/comments on feedback for the buyer...?neg/neutral/positive?

You owe the buyer an apology. You had his money for two weeks before shipping. I probably would have negged you too.

rhpepsi, is buyer saying he has never received the item? If so, youre screwed without a DC with paypal. But if you feel buyer has or will receive the item and is still wanting their money back,...I would neg them right back for being dishonest. What is their neg? That you shipped late? Or does it go further than that? Hind sight is 20-20, but you probably should have emailed and said sorry, - whatever-delay in shipping. If all you stand to lose is 6-7 bucks, that isnt so bad. Next time you will probably make an a better effort to not let it get out of your control.

"should stick to the day job..."...buyers rating is 30..mine 4400...emails received 2/25 & 2/26..neg placed today after package was shipped...I apologized for the lack of e-mail response, I was just unable to reply before today...even though no where in the auction does it state how fast I ship product out...I guess I will wait and see if the buyer "receives" it in good condition (not lost in mail routine) and place my feedback then...

A week is a long time to wait to ship. With the feedback, it comes down to whether they tried to contact you or not? Seems to me that they placed a negative before giving you an opportunity to respond, that would make it a very easy choice for me as to what to leave.

With the explanation left here, the seller deserves a neg for not shipping in a timely fashion. The buyer deserves a positive for paying on time. A neg to the buyer would a retailitory neg which in turn will make you look bad.
This is much the same argument that most of the sellers here have in reverse. If a seller gets a deadbeat and gives a neg, they complain when they get the retailitory neg. This is basically the same except the shoe is on the other foot.

Stone, not if buyer has received the item and is just taking advantage of seller not having DC and going to paypal to rip out the funds in account. Seller shipped late. Seller is wrong. But ultimatly if buyer has received goods and doesnt want to pay for them...well, I'd like to be forewarned about a buyer like that.

I don't agree that the seller "deserves" a neg - There sometimes are circumstances that could delay shipping a little, just like the buyer always finds one. We had a terrible ice storm here in January and I literally could not get out of my driveway for 5 days. This was after a long holiday weekend, so I had many items that were delayed significantly (even more so since most went media mail) - I didn't get a single neg from that, and am happy. Sometimes there ARE reasons not to give a neg to a seller without contacting them first.
Also, I am not in agreement that the buyer doesn't deserve some ding. There simply was not enough time that passed before they went to paypal for a chargeback. I've dealt with slow shippers as a buyer, I wait 3 weeks before I take action, you never know. The buyer jumped the gun. Quick payment DOES NOT mean automatic positive, what if the buyer did a fraudulant chargeback on this after paying, does that get a positive? Also, according to ebay's rules, the buyer is supposed to contact the seller before leaving feedback if there is a problem. I do not consider this a satisfactory transaction, and leaving a negative in this case would be an easy decision for me. No, I don't always leave poor feedback in return for poor feedback, if they have contacted me, I tried to work something out if there was a problem, and they still gave me a neg or neutral, I am NOT likely to give one back - I just want a chance to work out a problem, that's all...

What is to late to ship? PayPal says 7 days, another seller ships in 3 weeks. It sounds like they shipped in a week but then without eDC there is no proof. What you need is USPS shipping assistant so that you can print your own eDC and it costs only 13 cents for everything other than Priority Mail and then that is free. I never send a package without it but I also ship next day and if that isn't possible I always email the buyer as to the shipping date. You never know when you have to CYA.....

I agree about shipping assistant, I would never ship without it. It is normal for me to ship 1000+ packages a month, so there are always going to be those who say the item never got there. I love it when they do, I track the number, and give them info as to when it was delivered. There are always 3 types of responses when they get that info
1) No response (probably because they know they have been caught in a lie)
2) Oh, I found it response - It is amazing how quickly they find the package
3) Someone must have stolen it from my mailbox or front door response - I tell them I am sorry to hear this, but my responsibility is for it to be delivered, they should file a police report if something has been stolen.
Yep, since I have started using this (I believe 2 years now) Refunding non delivered packages is a thing of the past. For misdirected packages, it also updates that info so it helps in keeping customers from getting too angry, since they know what the status is. Not only does it save me money, it also helps with customer service. I think it is crazy not to use this program.

Feedback for the buyer? None at the moment.
Here's what you do:
eBay has this mutual feedback withdrawal thing now. Write your buyer, tell him that you're sorry for the misunderstanding and you will be happy to send him an additional $6.25(even though he's getting his item and his money back too), if he consents to the mutual feedback withdrawal process.
You both win.

I think the buyer jumped the gun. In any event, if I were the buyer, I would have waited until I received the widget & then left either a neutral or a neg. The buyer doesn't deserve anything but a positive.

Neg: "Unreasonable Newbie." You performed within an acceptable business time period and the buyer was presumptuously expecting you to hold their hand.

You screwed up, the buyer didn't, why are you even thinking of negging him?...Also don't buy the notion you just couldn't email, you come home to sleep from your day job, take 5 minutes and answer the guy, if you sell you have an obligation to the buyer to communicate...Just love a seller like you that sells and could care less if the customer is satisfied, (or when)...
I'm ok now, just unloading...Sorry, I'll behave now..
