OK.. this has happened a couple times this week. I've gotten e-mail through "ask seller a question" concerning auctions I am not running ( I sell horse tack, etc. and the e-mails are about shipping charges on Ninetendos, etc. ) When you click on the "view the item" link it brings up eBay's "item not found" screen which says the item has expired. There have been no additional charges to my account so I'm sure it has not been hacked. I'm wondering if someone is phishing for valid e-mail addresses for future spam purposes or is eBay's mail system screwed up? Should I forward the e-mail to Safeharbor? Very strange. You can bet I did not answer the e-mail.

I have had some of those too, always asking shipping charges. The only difference is mine was about cell phones. The item number never 'goes' to a real auction. I think it is just phishing too.

I could be wrong, but wasnt there some type of virus (or something) going around with the ask a seller a question email? About a few weeks ago??

I have got them too on cell phones and shipping to different places and I just delete them I guess- thought I was the only one getting them. Got 2 yesterday and 2 the day before.

I think maybe we should all send them on to Ebay, since some of us are getting these odd questions.

I think I will send the latest one I got to eBay just to see what they say about it. Sounds like something bigger than I originally thought.

Got a reply back from eBay. This is newest phishing scam. The sender is hoping you will respond to his/her e-mail with a "This isn't my item" type response. In turn, once they know the address is still valid, they spam you with offers for items outside of eBay. In short, don't respond. Turn them in to SpamCop, etc.

How will ebay combat the new scheme? I think it actually works greatly in their favor. Why?, because now it will be much easier to institute a 'through-ebay-only' question and answer system that will reduce the number of oustide-of-ebay deals that ebay doesn't make any money on.
