I mail a lot of things 1st class and they seem to arrive within 4-5 days even across the country. I live in TX so I'm pretty central so maybe that makes a diff.

It's considerably slower lately for both of us here. Recently a 1st class envelope from three towns away took 5 days. And it was from a government office.

Adding the + 4 digits to your recipient's zip code may speed things up a little. Since I started using the + 4 Zip, packages have arrived considerably faster, a couple of days difference on most cross country shipments.

I have not been using it much lately but in the past found first class faster than Priority. All of my items had 9 digit zip codes with bar codes which I am cure makes it much faster.

Depending upon where you live in TX and which part of NE it is coming from. For first class mail, there are two ways that the Postal Service will ship. They have what they call the 500 mile rule. If your package is going to travel more than 500 miles, they will put it on an airplane to the nearest hub that it is going to. This is why first class is often as fast as Priority. On the same note, if it has less then 500 miles to travel, then it is shipped via over the road truck. Then the parcel will also stop at all the hubs along the way as the truck drops at those hubs and picks up as well, or often even transfers trucks. This can take a few days for the whole process to take place.
