Under a separate thread, I wrote about a bidder that wanted me to send her copies of my patterns in case she lost the bidding on them. I wrote back and explained to her why I couldn't send her copies and she wrote this back to me:

"I did not know that Vintage patterns being copied was a problem or illegal atall.I see so many others selling this way on e-bay,I had no Idea,thank-you for telling me and being so gracious.LOL"

Well, last night I had an auction close at $61.00 and she was the high bidder. Surprise surprise I get an e-mail almost immediately saying this:

"Did you hear the gasp and then the
thud!Of what, you saay?Of MY body slamming into my pc desl when I saw what the pattern haaad gone for! I checked my bids and foun dout that I had accidentally hit a comma insted of a dot tmaking my last bid into
hugd bid.I am so sorry,I never could have bid that much for a pattern leaflet.ever.Could you offer it to
second chance.I assure you.i haad no idea,Would you please not give me a black mark or negativr feedback.I wish that we could sharre these patterns when we need
to borroe them,as friends and neghbors used to.Please respond as I feel so upset about this.Thank-you"

What do you all make of this? I tend to be a very trusting person, but I got a funny feeling on this one. Especially when I checked her feedback and found that she has spent literally hundreds of dollars on dolls and the like over the past MONTH. I wrote her back stating that unless she can provide me with the e-mail confirmation, that she's liable for the transaction. I haven't heard back from her. I did block her from further bidding on my items and I really would doubt that she'll pay for the ones that she has already bid on and won or purchased from my store. I will file NPB and FVF. And although I very very rarely neg anyone, I will neg her all 4 times if my suspicions are correct.

Opinions on all this please?

ebay bidding is addictive, she pulled the trigger and now she regrets.
you cannot force her to pay if she does not want to,altho she should pay and learn a lesson.
i would neg her.

bizzy: She's a flake.

I think you have the most clear-headed approach of anyone posting on your threads. I wouldn't pay any attention to the folks who claim it's quite all right to sell copies of copyrighted material "if..." or "everyone else does it...so I do it, too"

You're doing fine.

Many people in the catering and home decor businesses have said their recipes or work were stolen by Martha Stewart, who slapped her own name onto it. I only bring up Queen Martha to point out that there is a Karmic angle to stealing. Sure, Martha's never been successfully sued for lifting the work of others but when the hammer came down she had few people willing to stand by her.

What goes around comes around.

I would not be sympathetic. Sounds like a garden variety scam-a-ram-a-ding-dong.

"body slamming" into the desk...such drama! LOL

Don't waste your time on her. Just one neg is all you need, the other three won't count. I got negged 10X by a buyer who was unhappy withe shipping charges. Only one counts against you.

Sanmar -- That's true, however, with 4 negs spread out over a month, it'll look like a lot more. She's been buying alot of stuff on ebay over the past month so I think if I spread them out, it would show up more when a seller is looking at her feedback.

Thanks, Fluffy, for agreeing with me on the issue of not breaking the copyright infringement law. There was a pattern that I really wanted. It was a beautiful irish crochet bonnet and I knew that if I crocheted one, I would sell it in a heartbeat. But the seller was only selling copies of this pattern. I refused to buy it. It just wouldn't have been right.

Thanks everybody else for your input. I don't know if it was an honest mistake or if she was getting even with me. She still hasn't sent a copy of the bid confirmation and I doubt she will.

Well, time to let this one go and move on ....
