Just for fun - let's list three things that we find positive about eBay. Nothing negative - I think those have already been posted!
My first is the cosmopolitan nature of doing business on eBay - you "meet" people from all over the world.
Second, where else can a retired grandma reach a market of millions?
Third, making money and working whenever I want.
It's just a beautiful morning here in central New York - sun shining, upper 50s, things starting to grow, that I am feeling very positive. I wouldn't have posted this a couple of months ago.

1. it's fun to pick up a book for 10 to 50 cents on a hunch that it might sell, and find out you're right--especially when they sell for a lot after a bidding war.
2. getting checks & money orders in the mail every day & making several deposits a week feels good.
3. it supports my mule in the lifestyle towhich she's become accustomed...

1. Making a positive contribution to our retirement cash flow (not a lot, but it's satisfying).
2. Collectibles 101. Learning about alllllll the different subcategories of collectibles, studying up, and then knowing something new.
3. Find out that 99.99999% of the buyers, around the world, are good people. It has restored my faith in people, badly shaken by media reporting in the last 20 years.
4. Bonus reason! Meeting all of you good pals, who are so patient and willing to help each other.

1) Thanks to ebay I only work for myself
2) It has enabled me to take advantage of currency values thruout the world to target my sales to countries with stronger economies when ours is weaker
3) I can sell to some of these fruitcakes without ever having to actually come into contact with them

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

1) Something to do when you are disabled and in pain, a great distraction.
2) The excitement of watching those bids go up
3) Meeting so many people, many who have become real friends, and correspond apart from eBay

1) I love being able to sleep in. If I'm bleary eyed in the morning and not at the top of my game - who cares?
2) I love peaking the interest of people when they ask what I do. Used to be I was just a homeschooling mother...boring! Now the kids are grown and I can say I sell on Ebay and people come out of the woodwork to ask my advice.
3) Shopping-Shopping-Shopping..and very soon...garage sales!

Gives me something to do & at the same time make a few bucks
I have reached people from all 50 states & this week Puerto Rico.
It made this chat room possible & I have "met" some really nice people that will try to answer anyone's question.

1. Watching the great testimonials come back!
2. Getting to know people from abroad. I'd say 5-10% of my bidders are international.
3. #1 in my book is the work at home factor! Not there yet, but working on it.

I can work in my jammies.
I get to 'meet' some very, very nice people.
I actually have a reason to go to all the auctions and yards sales - it's for eBay. Never mind I get to add to my many collections while I am getting things to sell. I love 'box lots'!!

Great Post, I have to say that I love Ebay
1. Giving me additional income for the extras in life..vactions, shopping
2. Opening a door to soon be self-employed with very little start-up..Putting me in a frame of mind to open up to other opportunities such as a website and direct sales.

You mean, positive about eBay selling.
So these things would be true about selling at any reasonable venue, not just eBay.
Some years ago I moved from Southern California to Northern California following a divorce. The settlement was such that I didn't have to worry (for once!) about finding a job immediately. I started to experience the unfamiliar sensation of having daytime on my hands. I'd go to a matinee but have that I'm-supposed-to-be-in-school-right-now twinge of guilt that is somehow also oddly pleasurable.
Even though I put in a lot of hours now, I still get that twinge when I go out for lunch or on errands and realize that there's nowhere I have to be if I don't want to be.

1-since Ive been retired for 6 months,I can
make as much or little money as I want, depending how much work I want to put into it.
2-Working at My own pace is great and being the fact if I dont want to work at all is even better.
3-THE BEST THING on ebay, and no one even mentioned it is BUYING on Ebay. You have millions of items to choose from. Most of them cheaper then buying in the store. Its delivered right to your door. But the best thing is you can get items that are no longer made.I remember the first thing I bought on ebay 6 years ago was 2 Siamese cat lamps.Where would I ever find them? I never knew they even existed.Being the fact that I sell on ebay, almost all the stuff I have bought on ebay is been absoutely free! I have bought stuff over seas-how could I do that without ebay-its all here right on one website.

triple zero: Could be the reason it's not mentioned is because for some of us it isn't true.
Since moving to the new office I have occasion to purchase large quantities of certain items: computers, earring cards, rolls of labels for Dymo LabelWriter printers, packaging tape, laser printer toner...the list goes on and on.
Without exception I can get all of these things cheaper, faster and with less risk OFF eBAY.
Why?
Because the vendors offering these items seem to have NO CLUE there is a marketplace beyond eBay. It's called "the Web".

I think I can put down 3 things at this point even though I am a newbie.
1. The camaraderie between the sellers and buyers. Yes, I have had some buyers stiff me, but I made some really great friends from my buyers.
2. I go on vacation for a week and come back to a windfall in auctions that have really come in! Ummmmm ... If I worked a FT J-O-B, I wouldn't have earned THAT much.
3. The excitement of watching what my auctions are going to do. Some shock the stuffing right out of me!
4. I was feeling down one day because I was approaching the big 4-0. I kept thinking about a doll that I loved as a child and I was able to buy that doll that I loved as a child on e-bay. If ebay wasn't here, I would probably have never found that doll. Ok, so it is classified as "vintage". <sigh>
Oops ... Turned into 4. I'm going back to crocheting.
