Ok, I've had it with going to the post office. I'm finally giving in and going to online postage. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to which online store is best?

ie: Cost - Convenience - Reliability

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've been printing mine through Paypal...Priority is free and includes confirmation....First class,Parcel Post etc etc is .20 and confirmation is .13 then you can setup a free pick-up with the post office . No problems yet (knocking on wood) they don't offer insurance thou ... but theres a company (can't remember the name...someone will tell you) that you can get the insurance from on line also

I use PayPal for small $ items, but on those that are over $20.00, I have to go to the PO for insurance. You can still print the labe with postage for weight etc. but you hve have the PO add for ins. Unfortiunately you cannot get postage through P/P for non eBay items.

U-PIC is the private online insurer.
but if you dont have a policy with them, there is a fee each time you purchase insurance online.
say i just purchased 215 worth of insurance and it is 3.00 plus 50 cents=3.50
they are cheaper than post office as they dont have to insure anyone, everyone like the post office.

It depends on the volume you ship, if you do much international, if you have a label printer, if you buy USPS insurance, etc.
If low volume, paypal is probably the best.
I stayed with endicia even though paypal is free (or almost free) because I use a label printer and didn't want to loose the ability to print international labels and add insurance.
Also, you get 1.5% back if you use the paypal debit card. (not possible using paypal labels) so if I print $500 of postage per month, I get half of the Endicia fee back (I have a premium account)

Endicia yes I love them they now have insurance
Their insurance is cheaper than post office AND you can insure most INTERNATIONAL
and the declaration forms can now be done on line for international so that means
NO standing in line at the post office for domestic or most international ....Wahooo!

some new highlights are....
New integrated Global Express Mail label. DAZzle can now print a complete GEM label that includes BOTH a tracking number and customs ID so that the entire GEM process is handled in one step with one form.

Support for USPS Customs Declaration forms. Automatically fill out and print the USPS Customs Declaration forms when printing any and all international mail classes

Can you provide more info on the newest upgrades (customs printing, insurance) that you mentioned? We must be using an older version of dazzle.

Would love to find out more.

So, having just gotten the umpteenth ad in the mail from Pitney-Bowes, why is it the non-stamp folks aren't considering postage meters?

I'd never use one because I don't want to pay the convenience fee, but that's just me.

i just installed the beta version but I am excited to try it out. This is going to be such a time saver. I drive from Canada once a week and ship from Port Huron. The post office there allowed me to drop my packages off at the back so I didn't have to stand in any lines which I thought was great. But I did have to go in for the international or ones that wanted insurance now I dont' even have to do that Wahooo!

As far as paying for a convenince it is well worth the 10 per month a mere 2/2.50 per week for the privilage of not standing in line. After all time is money or for me it could be gardening time or a dozen other things that would be more rewarding then standing in line........

I have endicia, and have used it for awhile, but man, after using the 'click and ship' straight off the USPS site, well, I'm not sure I want to pay the service fee for Endicia any longer... BUT Dazzle does give you a log, and you can check straight from there on the DC.... don't know.

Here we go again. Another "oh geez" moment from our favorite Texan.

pitney bowes does not offer free USPS dc

You don't honestly believe ENDICIA offers free USPS Delivery Confirmation? Or STAMPS.COM? Or PAYPAL?

Do you even understand how DC works and how a DC number is generated?

ELECTRONIC DELIVERY CONFIRMATION (eDC) -- no matter how it is generated is free for Priority Mail. That's a function of the Poooooooostal Service. USPS. You remember them.

All a postage meter does is supply postage in the form of a meter strip.

And while I'm at it, when you see a sign on an exterior door that says "Push", that means you don't pull on the handle.

Click-N-Ship at the www.usps.com - used it for the 1st time today. I liked it for the FREE DC on the priority packages.... very user friendly.

ONLY downside was if you needed insurance - but what the hey! I didnt have to stand inline today!

Well, we already know you're a slow learner.

In English, the first letter of every sentence is a capital. Years and years on Vendio and your postings still read like e.e.cummings on crack.

I liked it for the FREE DC on the priority packages....

Again, you don't have to use Click-N-Ship ( almost typed a "t" there instead of a "p" ).

Any program that speaks XML and can communicate with the USPS servers can get you free eDC on Priority Mail. There are a number of options available. You could even write your own.

For Mac users I use (and suggest) Swordfish Express from http://www.buyolympia.com/software/swordfishexpress/

- they also produce the whole Swordfish (non Express / full version) which is the client for Mac Endicia customers. I haven't used that version so I can't comment on it.

The Express version however is great. It's free. Really the only drawback is that one must apply one's own postage. The Express version only registers the eDC number with USPS and prints the label. (It also will nicely send addresses into USPS for reformatting just they way they like them.)

The prices are the same as any other solution - free eDC on Priority, 13 cents on the rest. I just use the USPS.com online postage calculator and have a variety of stamps on hand (even 1 and 2 cent stamps, which you can get, even though postal clerks are sometimes reticent about it).
I haven't yet figured out whether they're just irritated about my buying the small value stamps, or they think I'm trying to scam them somehow, but I have had luck just nicely asking to see if they have any in their drawer. Usually if they do, I buy all of them (as I generally find they don't have very many in the drawer at a time).

When I get started selling again, I may look into PayPal's new postage scheme, but I'm not really sure it's worth the 20 cents. I'm cheap. (I'll admit it)

I go to the P.O. nearly every day and know the times to go when it isn't busy, so am right in there. I need insurance on almost every package. One of the clerks told me that giving insurance on the clik and ship is forthcoming. Will sure give me more time to list.
