I bought this thing for $800 and I don't know what the heck it is. It's 5 feet tall and carved from a huge chunk of solid wood and it weighs about 200 lbs. It looks like it's about 40 years old or so. It could be older. (The sword is a cheap flea market special).

Anyone know what this thing is and where it might be from?? I'm guessing that it's supposed to be a Mongolian warrior. What's it worth? Any comments/guesses would be appreciated.

this looks like kwang kung ,one of the 3 heroes of three kingdom of china.
He has long beard and carries a kwang knife, except this one is not carrying a kwang knife.
it looks impressive and from the picture looks like bronze, but you said it is wood??
if this is a recent creation,it could be resin inside with bronze coat the thickness of orange peel.

Stop,

You know so much... I'm impressed.

This is completely off topic but you remember those little books I have? If you want them please send me an email. I'll send them to you for shipping cost only.

Too many pictures. I hope you don't put that many in your auction. Anyone using dial up will quickly hit their back button as it takes way too long to open.

It's definitely a 100% wood carving. There are a few splits/cracks from the aging wood. And it's all one piece. Whoever carved it started out with a log.

I tried checking out 'Kwang Kung' but I couldn't find any pictures or much info. What I really want to know is what are those things on each side of the head?

As for all of the pictures, I didn't know there were people still on dial-up. Man, that's like riding around in a horse and buggy. This statue is a keeper anyway. Too much trouble to ship it and it would be difficult to get a decent price for it on ebay. I'd like to find a matching reproduction sword for it.

ohmslucy,
thanks for the offer, but i dont really have any use for it,i will ask my japanese friend to see if they could use them ,thanks so much.
back to this warrior,
search Three kingdom of China,Kwang Kung could be spelt different or search for Kwang knife.
May be it is a Mongolian warrior,as Kwang Kung is always seen carrying the kwang knife.
the thing on the sides of his head ,how does it look on the back??
that helmet he is wearing with a little round knob on the top looks mongolian or one of the nomadic tribes oustide central china.
you said it is carved from one piece of wood, can you tell if electric tools are used??
