Here's what I don't understand. this is about the 4th time you've sung this sad song here and every time someone sugests that you set up your local pick up only auctions so that you have to approve the bidders.

Rather than set yourself up for this situation time and time again so that you can come here and complain that ebay has not enacted something that is a non issue to 99% of all sellers, why not just actually use the ebay option that enbles you to makes sure your bidders qualify?

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Actually it's an issue to me in a different way - I want to know where a seller is and I think eBay should disallow "Happy Land" or "in my truck" as location on auctions.
If they're gonna show locations, SHOW LOCATIONS.

Course, I think bidders should be "located" too for a variety of reasons.

Both should be city/state, right off your registration.

It's a very valid issue. There is absolutely no reason a bidders and seller's locations need to be a closely guarded secret. I had an auction that closed 2 days ago in which the winning bidder had an Australian email address. Had I have noticed it earlier, I would have cancelled his bid and blocked him because this was an item that would have been prohibitive to ship to Australia. As it turned out, he lives in Florida so all is o.k. He paid immediately with Bidpay and I shipped the item. It's just a fluke I didn't notice his Aussie email addy. If Ebay would start putting the zip codes (or country for international bidders) back on the bidders list like they did at one time, it could head off a lot of future problems. I still haven't figured out why he didn't get a Yahoo or Hotmail account for his Ebay address.

funny that this topic came up today. I just got through putting up my first no shipping /pick up only auction. Too big for me to ship but ok for someone to pick up. In the auction description I did add my location area but not my address and invited interested persons to contact me to preview the item. I guess that was kind of stupid. Oh well, maybe my sick killer dog will attack the first "bad guy" that arrives with the butcher knife. If not, maybe my karate kid with protect me hahahahaha

Just click on your bidder's name--their feedback box comes up, and it tells you right at the top where they are located--United States, Australia, U.K., whatever.

Bunni,

That really isnt what I had in mind. United States covers a good deal of territory - I would like to see city/state right off your registration info for sellers AND bidders.

jack, if you only sell things that are less than 13 ounces you won't have to care where in the US the buyer is (send everything 1st class). That's my suggestion. If you have something heavier, break it into 13 oz. pieces and auction them separately. You're welcome.

Why should a buyer need to know the seller's location?
If the shipping is fixed it makes no difference where they are.

It really doesn't help for transit time since it is likely that the item won'e be shipped for a couple days.

Jack,

I was snooping, actually looking at your auctions and you must have really stupid customers. You are real clear about what you can and can not ship.

Here's a suggestion:

Put a clause in your auctions that says "Only bidders with gray matter between their ears and only those who can READ are permitted to bid on my auctions!!!"

Other than that I have no other suggestions. I really don't think you can be any clearer that you already are.

Wow, jack, do you really have a 400 lb. safe? I need one of those. If you can guess where in the US of Friggin A I am I will pay shipping. I would pick it up, but I don't think I can pick it up.
