Hi...quick question...printer broke...bought another one..bought the usb cord.
Computer won't recognize hardware...short of long story...Lexmark tells me I need to update the USB and to go back to Compaq...did you ever try their help site...that needs help.
I'm grateful for any insights

priest, try downloading their newest software. The other thing is in the printer controls instead of setting your settings to LPT1 see if you can change it to USB.

did you try looking at http://www.driverguide.com/ to see what they have? The password is Login: Drivers Password: All
Otherwise I thought ALL windows OS recognize and install new hardware automatically. You did unistall the old printer before installing the new one right? And then you hooked the new printer up shut down and restarted your computer? At that point is should pick up that it's installed in USB mode.

If the other suggestions don't work, some computer maker's USB ports don't supply the required voltage(to the USB port). The fix is to buy a "Powered" USB hub, connect the hub to the computer, then connect the printer to the hub. I know this sounds crazy, but I know of more than one time this has fixed the problem.
