Hello
I know there are a few of you that know about knitting and sewing etc.
I just ran across what I hope was a good deal on some Studio Knitting Machines and accessories.
I know nothing about knitting but I think these are old machines but may still have value.
My question is does anyone have a website that can help sort this stuff out. I think there are 4 machines, tons of books and punch card and boxes of accessories that appear to be new in the box (old new stock).
Is Studio and Singer the same - they look the same?
Any help would be appreciated

I'm not an expert on knitting stuff, but I do know from looking at auctions in both the UK and US that knitting machines, accessories and books sell well. I wish I could help you out further.

Are any of those knitting books Alice Starmore? If so, they sell for quite a bit on both ebay US and UK.

I have not looked at all the books yet - saw some from Japan? I will keep an eye open for that name. Thanks

Bizzy: I knit but have never heard of Alice Starmore. Why are her books worth so much more? Just curious.

Ladyjewels: Here is a wonderful site for you to go to, to ask your questions about knitting machines etc. When I was knitting a lot, I would go there every day. The people there are like our Vendio pals, very helpful--and the knitters are seasoned, experienced knitters who know a lot about the world of knitting. Good luck.

I have been knitting for about 58 years. I am not familiar with Studio Knitting machines, but I come from England originally, so they may be from North America. I have found that with older knitting machines that they are not as popular, unless people are collecting, because the older machines were powered by hand, whereas the newer models are electric, and much less work. I have found that older machines are often very heavy also. I think the accessories could sell well, because people still using those machines could well be looking for them, also the books.

Roadsmith -- Alice Starmore pioneered Fair Isle knitting techniques. Her patterns and yarns are highly sought after. Have you seen any of her patterns? If not, just do a search on ebay for them. They are very intricate. Personally, I'm not sure I would have the patience to make these types of sweaters, but they really are beautiful. I've seen some of her books close for over $100. Even trying to find her books on half.com or amazon.com at a discount, they are still extremely expensive.

Roadsmith ... I don't know if you shop estate sales, flea markets and the like, but one of the most highly sought after filet crochet items are Mary Card charts. She designed very intricate filet charts. You can find some of the written patterns in older needlecraft magazines. But back then you had to send $.10 or $.15 to receive the filet chart. I have seen these charts sell for high amounts ($50.00 & up for just one chart). Only problem is that these charts were available back in the '10s and '20s. They are very hard to find today.
