I just went to pay for a couple of auctions with my Mastercard. There is an announcement stating they no longer take Mastercard. No explanation why.
Is this some sort of trend? Two months ago I called MCI to pay my bill with my debit card. They told me they didn't take debit cards anymore.
I just called to pay my phone bill by check-by-phone. They inform me that they do take debit cards again because of the number of complaints.
I do not understand why big companies take away payment options.

I believe that this has to do with the court case out of NY that big merchants filed against the credit card companies. The jist of the suit was that the cc companies forced card holders to use their debit cards as credit cards rather than debit (by charging a fee to the consumer for debit transactions) and thus it was costing the merchants more in fees.
In my merchant account statement, there is a notice that we can opt out of accepting debit cards. I think it would be stupid to opt out because it does limit customers' choices and is especially bad on customers who do not have a credit card.

I do not use credit cards. I have learned to live with cash/debit cards. Taking away Debit cards sounds like a dumb to me.
