My email comes through my domain account and there are no spam filters at the mailbox level. My email program does a pretty good job of sending spam to a junk folder but a few slip into the mailbox every day. Until a few days ago I received at least 400 to 600 spam messages a day into my junk folder. I could see them flashing by in my activity bar and emptied the folder several times a day. Earlier this week I began to notice that some of them had [SPAM] in front of the subject. Now I don't think any spammer would put that in the subject line of their own accord. I then noticed that I was getting fewer and fewer emails in my junk folder or in my in box. I am down from over 400 to 600 to maybe 100 a day. Has anyone else noticed a drop? Anyone else getting [SPAM] in front of subjects? Nice change, wonder if it will last.

Not here. For the first month of my new service I got no spam. Suddenly, this past week has been loaded with it. I block and bounce more times a day than I can tell you. I'm sick to death of it.

I haven't seen any with [SPAM] in the subject but then I don't get very much spam. Maybe 1-2 a day. I noticed a drop when AOL's latest version came out.
I'm glad you're seeing a drop. 100 a day would make me nuts!

OhMsLucy, 100 is such an improvement that I am happy with it.
Toasted, it can not be from PC-cillian because I am on a Mac. I just ran my Norton virus checker last week but I don't keep it running automatically because I have some problems with my Virtual PC when I do. At this time there is no need to do so on a Macintosh because it is wonderfully virus free. And it is not because (as tomwii claims) that no one uses a Mac.
When I look at the source on these emails there is a "X-Spam-Flag: YES" in the headers that is not on those without. Right now I am just hoping that the drop in volume continues.

I don't get hardly any spam at all any more. A few weeks ago it all just stopped. One thing I notice is the more ebay activity I have, the more spam I get.

sanmar, I got one close to that this week saying that he would like 100 of XXXXX that I am selling and if I would just give him my bank account # he would transfer the $$ plus freight to my account. Very broken English and bounced through at least 3 places before reaching me. So, of course I sent him all of my cc numbers, bank account numbers and my home address and everything else I could think of. (NOT!!) I really wonder how many people fall for this sort of thing??

When I was using my Verizon account for mail I got almost no spam but they made a change and would no longer let me send mail with my domain return address so I changed over to my domain pop accounts. I have several pop mail boxes and I want to be able to hit "reply" and have it go back with the address that was used by the sender. After a security change last year I could not find any way to do this with Verizon. My domain accounts have no frills so I have been stuck with the multi-hundred spams every day until this past week. I did update my Norton anti-virus and run one scan with it but I did not expect it to have any long term effect. Hummm! wonder if it did?

The {SPAM} is from your e-mail domain. At work, our domain puts that flag on all e-mails it feels could be spam as a fore-warning. Then you can decide if it really is.
