I would love to be able to bring the picture forward and blur out the background with adobe photo deluxe. Would anybody know how to do this? Thanks!

Can you post the picture? It would be easier to answer the question about a specific picture.

Here's an example photosensitive. I would like to bring the moon and star forward and blur out the background. I've been manually retouching the photos to get rid of the writing. Any ideas? Thanks.

Bizzy, when you say "blur our the background" do you mean that you want to remove the text blocks and smaller stars?

Photo -- Pretty much. Alot of my patterns have writing around the sides. If I could just blur out the background (instead of the tedious touchups that I do), I can keep the focus on what I'm selling and not the written text or background of the images. I think it's distracting. I saw that someone had done it to her pattern and it looked alot better than either smudging or touching up. But I don't know HOW to do it! Thanks for any help you can give me. Also, if it's possible, I would like to learn how to get the background out completely out of some of my patterns and then put in a little shadow. Do you know how to do that too?

I am sure there is a Visual Quickstart Guide and that sounds like a Photoshop filter/plug in rather than a photo deluxe effect.
One thought, try moving your camera away from your subject, move the background away as well, and zoom into the subject only.
This will give you the selected focus that you are looking for. Basically it is a portrait shot.
You know, the shallow depth of field focuses only on the subjects face and the background goes all soft.
To be frank, and hour experimenting with some lighting and depth of field would be more productive than a PS plug in learning curve.
...of course now that I re-examine the photo I see that it's just the cover of a book...why would you want to do that???

Japerton -- These are scanned in. I don't use a camera. I'm looking to lose the written text and other backgrounds that are in the images.
Pmelcher -- They are adorable! And you can put in a music button to play music for baby. And for the more creative, a mobile of the moon with a bunch of stars can be made.
Sorry to do a vanishing act but I am trying to do laundry and packing to get ready for a trip.
If you really want blur (which might be a bit distracting) you can use the lasso tool to draw around the area you want to blur and under "Filter" select "Blur" then "Gaussain Blur" and adjust the blur to the amount you want. Giving the lasso a "Feather" setting will help blend it in.
A cleaner way would be to use the "Clone Stamp Tool" to stamp the background over the area you want to cover.
You might also use the eye dropper to select the color next to the area you want to cover, draw around it with the lasso with a feather edge and select "Edit", "Fill" and "Foreground Color". If you set the lasso for about a 10 px feather the patch should blend into the background. I quickly tried them all and think the fill with a feather edge was the best looking quick fix.
If you want the objects cut out of the background with drop shadows that takes some time and patience if they are not on a really simple background. You can cut out the objects using the magic wand and lasso. I would be happy to talk you through but I am leaving early in the morning. If you don't get an answer before I get back next week I'll try to help you. Someone (I forget who) did a demo a while back.
