5) Shipping Insurance Restrictions
By Ina Steiner

Another cautionary tale about what shipping companies do NOT cover with their insurance plans. Do your homework when sending expensive items. (Thanks to the reader who sent me this.) http://digbig.com/4bmxs

Heres the song:

Had to post it as reading it put it in my head now, ty glassgirl!

I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh and
I saw the photograph

He blew his mind out in a car
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They’d seen his face before,
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords.

I saw a film today oh, boy
The english army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had a look
Having read the book,
I’d love to turn you on...

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.

Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

Ah

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all,
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall.
I’d love to turn you on...

yes the song keeps running through my head too. That was the first thing that popped into my head when I was trying to think of a title.

I had hoped that Ina would of given a bigger write up on it but something is better than nothing. Over in their forum where I posted it, someone seemed to think that if atticques00 had taken it to a FedEx office instead of what they perceived to be a MailBoxes R US that it would of qualified for the whole shebang of insurance.

I'm still outraged that FedEx was entrusted with the safe delivery of the package and with it disapeering en route that the best they had to say was "sorry charlie yuk yuk"

Just for kicks I sent it onto 20/20 and Dateline. So when John Stossel calls atticques00, are you willing to go on camera?

I keep trying to remember to go upstairs where I do my shipping and log into my FedEx or my receipts and trying to figure out how much extra FedEx has charged me for the non existance added value.

I don't see how it is their fault if you are declaring a value over $100 on stuff that they clearly state that they won't cover.

It is like putting $100 worth of stamps on an envelope and then get mad that USPS didn't give them back because only a $.37 stamp was needed.

gee whillikers! Now why didn't I think of that?!

I think whatnot3 that you haven't shipped much FedEx.

There's a little box on their web page that says "value" and they actually want you to put the amount in that! Can you imagine? And then the shipping price is adjusted according to that! If you put in $200.00 they charge you {gasp!} MORE to ship it!

Not shipped much with FedEx?
I have shipped many thousands of packages with them. (even put $6000 in there a few times)
They have certain items that they won't pay more than $100 if they lose it, not everything. If it has a real market value then they cover it. Not antiques and collectibles that can be worth $1000 today and $10 tomorrow.
If you can find someone that had a legitimate claim over $100 denied by Fedex on something that isn't specifically stated in there tariffs that they won't cover, then that is a different story.
