Calling on your experience with Noritake - after exhausting both online and the Replacements Ltd. book, I'm stumped and could use your help.

Have you seen this pattern?

Its backstamp indicates it was made in 1912. (I just love it when auctioneers just say it's Nippon and it's really Noritake...)

If you haven't seen it before, any suggestions on where else to look?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I found the backstamp in my Noritake book. it is pre-1960. Will look for the pattern and let you know if I find it.

Neva,

The backstamp actually dates it to 1912. If you can identify the pattern, I'd really appreciate it!

What source are you looking at for patterns? I've searched the Noritake book published by Replacements Ltd. as well as several online sources.

Can't find anything, sorry. How about sending a picture to Replacements and see if they can identify it.

Hi Wayne, could it be the raised gold pattern? There is another called 'white and gold?" There's no floral pattern on it right? Those are the only ones it remotely looks like to me.

No, Tess. I've been through everywhere I can think of -- then thought of Alan's wealth of experience and considered asking here.

I usually try to exhaust all avenues before coming here to get an opinion. The pattern is similar to many, but not any that are listed.

I know Noritake has plenty of "unnamed" patterns and some even go by just a number.

I've taken the advice above to ask Replacements for their guidance. It's the first time I've tried that - and I'll let you know what kind of response I get and how timely it is.

Thanks for the suggestions, Tess.

Well,

Heard back from Replacements in just under 24 hours! I thought that was fast.

I sent images off to their "Research Dept." and asked if they could tell which pattern it was and mentioned that if they wanted to make an offer - that I was open to that.

The response was:

Please email me a complete itemized inventory listing of all the pieces you wish to sell in this pattern. Please include the measurements of all the pieces. Once we receive your list/measurements, our Purchasing Department will send an ‘offer to purchase’ to your email address.

Thanks for your time and assistance.

I think it's great that they are quick to respond. I wonder, though, if the responder is one of those on eBay who doesn't read the details .

Of course, sent off the measurements and hope to hear back from them on what the pattern is and what they're willing to pay. If it's not a good enough deal, then they'll go up on the block starting at the Replacements offer price.

Haven't seen Sanmar on the forum for several days -- hope everything is okay with him.

Guess they weren't "that" hot for it <sigh>...

The didn't make an offer, but did respond in just 6 more hours with the following:

Pattern: N1477 by NORITAKE [N N1477]
Description: GOLD ENCRUSTED FLORAL,CREAM BANDS

Beats searching through the hundreds and hundreds of patterns they have for Noritake. And, this one only goes by the Pattern #. Searching on the Gold Encrusted Floral in the description gets you bupkis.

Just thought I'd let everyone know how quickly they responded. It all started with a simple e-mail to: [email protected]. I'll have to try them on the other wacky patterns I can't find.

Just picked up a nearly complete set of old Haviland china - 12 place settings, soup tourine, meat platter, etc. at an estate auction for just $65.00. That's actually the most I've paid for a china set. I was up against an Amish woman who ran me up. No one else was bidding. I did run a large set of very nice old Noritake up to $300, before letting a competitor get it -- and I still feel bad about that. I'm sure it was worth more than double that...<sigh>

Oh well. I guess these pieces will end up on eBay in about 2 weeks when the Olympics are over. GO USA!
