Hopefully an expert in the field of fina china and porcelain can help me.
I have a set of dinnerware to sell, and a lot of the larger pieces, like the dinner plates, have what look to be, original to manufacture, small "scrape" marks on the plate, often maybe 2 or 3, and they look deliberate. They're about 1/4" round or less; is this where they take the plate off of some kind of 'holder' after the decorating process? Can you tell me what they are called?

There were probably spur marks there that were scraped off. Many oriental pieces have the spur marks. They're left on. Maybe the spurs were too big to leave in place and they would cause the plates to wobble? Just a guess.
See ya later!

Hmmm. But these are on the top, beautiful, decorated side of the plates. (not the bottom side) unless you meant you don't want your dinner food to wobble. LOL

These are known as "seconds" because of the imperfections. These spots occured during the glazing process. Not worth very much.
