Hi all, my electricity just came back from Sept. 3rd. Frances hit land right in Stuart where I live. A great deal of exterior damage, home is still livable, but a great deal of work is needed. It is a terrible feeling to be evacuated and not know if you have a home waiting when you return. I think the most anxiety came from waiting for this to finally hit we were evacuated on Sept. 1 and it finally hit us on the 5th. I never want to hear the term honker down again. Glassgirl I am thinking of you.

Glad to hear you are home Renee. I know how horrible it is to not be able to get back to your home after evacuating. And it is depressing to see all the work you have to do to clean up afterwards.
And you are right, the weather channel keeps you so terrified before the storm, that it is almost a relief once the storm finally gets where ever it is going.
Where we are, I would rather spend one night with high adrenalin than have to wait and worry for a week about whether I have a home to come home to. Once you leave an evacuation area, you never know how long it will be before you can get back in. But that decision has to be made on a case by case basis.
And I can live without lights, but life in Florida without air conditioning is a #@$%&!
Do you need a team of us to come down and help with the repairs?? Seriously! I love the Stuart area and would be glad to come help. I have been wondering how the Cassadega area fared in the storm.

Reenie, I had no idea you had been through all that. I can't imagine being without power 14 looooong days.
Great news that you & your house are safe.
Hang in & things will get back to normal.

Hi Reenie,
Glad you got your power back! In my wildest dreams, I cannot imagine surviving in Florida without A/C.
My nephew, when he evacuated Pensacola, took along the meat and fish from his freezer, plus a BIG bag of charcoal and a grill. He figured cooking it on the road was better than leaving it to get all icky.

Glad to here that you are physically OK. Don't envy the work ahead of you. I did have one thought on your original post.

hi reenie
glad you made it too.
yep - hunker down. they kept saying it until somebody looked up the explanation for it finally. I have to admit, the radio guys did great all night long.
"The Oxford English Dictionary has a fine description of how to hunker: “squat, with the haunches, knees, and ankles acutely bent, so as to bring the hams near the heels, and throw the whole weight upon the fore part of the feet”.
The advantage of this position is that you’re not only crouched close to the ground, so presenting a small target for whatever the universe chooses to throw at you, but you’re also ready to move at a moment’s notice."
sounds like "bend over and kiss your a## goodbye" doesn't it?
I know, which is worse? Listening to the wind, rain, falling objects or wondering if you have a house to go back to?
I'm off to check on my house at the other end of the beach..........

oh my goodness reenie! I just noticed how LONG your power was off! Bless your heart!
And, I just found out how LUCKY we were with the Tornado! The other side of the highway (2 blocks over) is DEVASTATING! oh those poor people! And I can just imagine what it must of been like not to of even known it was about to hit you...just sitting there and then WHAM! Thank goodness for my angels that protect me! The weather wasn't even that bad for that Tornado to come out of nowhere like that. I mean I was sitting on the back porch!

Hi, the electric has been going on and off and so was the phone and I did not want to be on the computer with a sudden surge.
Toasted, to be that long in Florida without air is unreal especially at night. Our video amusement has re-opened and I am looking for some relaxation LOL!
ltray, thank you so much for the offer you are welcome to come any time and play, this is a fun area. The ins. guy was here Sunday and he said we will get a letter from them in 7-10 days. Our outside looks so much worse than our neighbors across the street, but they had a great deal of inside damage there place was declared unsafe on Sunday.I love Cassadega I will find out for you how they fared there.
Jane I was thinking of you the entire time.I wanted to send you an email before we had to evacuate and I just did not get around to it.
Lucy, glad to hear your nephew evacuated I am just starting to get a look at what happened over there frightening.I also took my laptop.
Stonecold, thank you for the laugh ( I needed that) I must say asking if Stuart is little is the first time I heard that. I guess I don't get around much anymore!
Glassgirl, what horrors that have happened in your area thankfully things are Ok with you, especially with the tornado. You are so right our radio people have been awesome. I believe they kept everyone in the loop. thanks for the definition of hunker down.
Now I am ready for serious ebay business and get into the swing of this board again I really missed it and everyone.
thanks,
reenie
