I know this guy that has 1942 Triumph Motorcycle - army issue in running order (I know that's about all they made in 1942). He asked me if I would be interested in selling it on ebay for him for a nice commission. The only problem is he may want too much for it and I don't want to waste time on a item that won't sell. I know they are pretty rare but ebay may not be the place to sell it.
Anyone know what the value on this type item would be and maybe a better place to sell it?
Thanks

Lady,
Here is a 1942 Triumph in excellent condition.

The price they are asking is 2,800 poundsUK,
which translates to about 5,052USD.

Hope this helps.

Put it on ebay for the longest possible auction and then start hitting the Triumph enthusiats sites and board and letting people know it there.

If you don't want to do it... give em my name - I'll do it

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

get on the military trader web site newspaper, or find the motor vechicle military collectors group something like that thru google, Also the biggest two shows for military collectors are the Max in Charlotte NC next week and the OVMS in Louisville Ky in late February he should take it to any of these, PS We deal in military all the time and those things are probably worth a fortune you would be amazed. If he tells you it is worth the price of some new cars etc now He is probably right,

His isn't that shiny but that's it. He wants $7000.00. That's before my cut. If these darn hurricanes would slow down long enough for me to get some photos and have him start it for me - I will probably go for it. But like everyone else who doesn't sell on ebay - he thinks it's free to list on ebay??????
Thanks for the good advice guys - be happy to help with any jewelry questions if you ever have any?
I'll let you know when I list.

ladyjewels: The only time that I sold something on eBay for a friend turned into a disaster that ruined a friendship.
Just my experience.

Before you do this make sure you spell out your selling terms up front...in writing!

All Ebay costs plus your commission. Take a small amount up front to cover your costs and time just in case they change their minds.

Might be a good idea to open a new account for this sale so that there is no chance on getting your regular account ruined in case the deal goes south.

If you do sell it make sure you hang on to the money till the deal is done.

Do some research and see if you can find a "market value" for this bike. If you find that he is asking too much then just let him sell this on his own.

Will this be pick up only or will there be shipping.

No point in putting a lot of work into something that may have no pay back to you.
