Hi all,

This little covered dish is about 5" across. It might have been the center bowl of a Lazy Susan.

The criss-cross marks and some details of the motifs on the lid are handpainted.

Since there aren't any words on the backstamp, I have no idea where to even begin ID'ing the manufacturer. Anyone recognize the mark?

Thanks,

Lucy

Hi MsLucy ... is that mark 'painted on' also? or impressed?

It is a cute bowl ... looks sort of Swedish to me.

Hi Aint,

It's stamped in color under the glaze.

Your dish is restaurant ware. The mark on the bottom was placed there by the pottery to identify the restaurant chain that used that pattern. That particular mark identifies it as coming from Cousin Opie's Chicken 'n Fritters Joynt in Haphazzard, Mississippi.

Nah, Sparkz, it's not from Opie's. My other cuzzin runs that place and he'd never have anything this classy!

Maybe it's from the Waffle House?

A particularly memorable meal was consumed there around 1:00 am, I think it was in 1995. I've still not forgotten it.

My son finally picked us up at the New Orleans airport. He was delayed about 4 hours with tire trouble... Which is why we were out at that hour.

Alabama State Troopers in their combat uniforms, stompin' around in their black laced-up boots, sleeves rolled up so their biceps showed. Giving the teenagers huddling in the booths the squinty-eye stare.

Waitress reminded me of the one in that Whoever-It-Was (Mel's?) Diner TV show. Scary...

Quite an experience!

Something that fancy would most likely be found at one of the higher class truck stops on the interstate, or possibly at a formal potluck at a trailer park. Ya gotta roll out the good stuff when you're serving escargot or 'possum.

Y'know something Lucy? Ain'tRichYet may have hit the nail on the head when she said it looked Swedish. It would be perfect for serving aebleskiver. You could list it as a rare aebleskiver serving dish from Opie's Joynt in Haphazzard, Miss. You wouldn't have any competition on Ebay because there are no others listed, which proves they are rare. Every Ebayer in Solvang will be bidding on it

Now, Flo!

"Alice" with da lovely Linda Lavin, Vic Tayback, Polly Holliday ~ based on one of me ole time fave flicks:

"Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore"
with Ellen Burstyn & a very YOUNG Jodie Foster...

Only one acter/actress from the flick made it to the series...WHO?
