Hi, guys: A long time ago we were discussing those neat light boxes some of you have, for taking photos. They were on Ebay. Now I can't find them, but my search was for "light box." What else could I call them, and where can I find them?

Kiara, thank you! Exactamente!
Should have been asking for light cube. I've ordered a 20" square one. The prices have really come down in the last year or two. I got a 20" BIN at $45 - $8 shipping.

I appreciate your help.

Yes, I got it from the same seller - a 20" cube. I searched the completed categories and could see they were actually selling for much less than in previous months. I've paid with PayPal and heard from the buyer already. Love this. I've wanted one of these for a looooong time.

I need a light box!

Because the non-lighted ones are too dark inside.

Would you settle for a not very heavy box?

Niel: Ignore all these corny jokes here! People who have the light cube (or who have built their own) swear by them--easier to take photos, built-in background, diffused light. My understanding is that I'll need to shine a bright light on the right and left sides of the box in order to get a good picture with no glare. I could be wrong. Anyway, at this price it seemed worth trying. Lucy has constructed her own, I believe, on top of something like a file cabinet, and it looked great in a picture she posted here.

Thanks Roadsmith - Ask a stupid questions and you are bound to get a stupid answer from someone. :} Besides I enjoy this board and all their quips. I had a frame made out of PVC and hooked lights on top and both sides. I don't know if I got the wrong lights or not but always have a glare and kept changing bulbs but finally gave up. If I stand on my head at the right angle it seems to help. Please let me know how your light box turns out and if you have to add the extra side lights. tnx

Lighten up..

What would life be without a joke or two.

Niel: Did you use translucent fabric or material of some sort on the sides to diffuse the lights?

I'll be setting up lights on either side of the light cube. I wouldn't try to use the cube without lighting, I think.

Stonecold: Of course you're right! We do need to lighten up.

Did ya ever try cutting the bottom off an opaque gallon mile container & shooting through the neck hole?

Works pretty darn good!

I used foam core in either black or white. Nothing to diffuse the lights on either side. Maybe the light box is the answer.

Thanks to a great thread on taking pictures that we had here on the board last year, I took over my husbands workbench in the garage. We have two overhead fluorescent lights over the work bench. GG had given me one of those foam core presentation boards from the office supply store. Using it as my background and the florescents over head, I am getting amazing pics.

The only draw back is shooting some ranges of light yellow or orange plastics. The tent sounds like a great set up and much easier to use.

Sounds good ltray, but I hate having to move stuff around to take pics and then move them back, etc. I have a set up right by my desk and computer so I can shoot, load and list without getting off my fat butt

when I shoot on a white background, it turns out grey and so I lighten it and then the gidget is too light, so just keep at it until I hit a happy medium. Maybe the light box is for me

Funny you should ask, Niel. It arrived yesterday via Fedex; I opened the carton this morning but haven't opened (unfolded) the light box yet. I'll play with it over the weekend and let you know.

Roadsmith: Would you do me a favor?

Try taking a photo of a picture or better yet, a postcard, if you have one.

I now take my pics at night in the dark with two light aimed at it, one from each side. That is the only way I have found to get a true photo with correct colors.

If the light would work it would sure make the photo taking a lot easier and I wouldn't have to stay up all night to get the kitchen table to myself

Okay, guys, here's the next report:

I opened the carton, opened the zipper bag the light cube was in, and it sort of exploded at me! The extra pieces they send, white or dark blue backgrounds to Velcro into the light cube, went flying every which way, and my finger poked a little hole in the side of the cube. Verrrry dramatic.

I haven't set the thing up with lights yet because the trauma of opening the danged thing sort of did me in.

I e-mailed the seller to tell him what happened and to suggest a message enclosed with each item to warn buyers to open as slowly as possible, or such. I told him about the little hole, and he offered to send a new one out if I'd return the damaged one. I'll probably just keep the one with the hole because it's not such a big deal to me.

After I've set the thing up, I'll give you a further report. Enough excitement for one day!
