Overstock reached its 10,000th listing today.
Not bad considering the site has only been online for 1 week.

That is just wonderful! I think we should all start prayer circles or something for that site, LOL.

I just sold something on OS that I had tried for ages to sell on eBay.
Thank you, thank you for small favors.

I just saw the new "O" commercial in TV last night. I was impressed.
I haven't seen an eBay commercial in weeks.

niel: you may be waiting a long time for that as they are growing by leaps and bounds and it is going to take some time to work out the bugs. I don't think they had any idea of the way this would take off. They have commercials on MSN, and TV this week-end and apparently people are looking (AND BIDDING)!!
I just wish that they had things working better before they started, but it is too late now and people are selling and buying by blundering along.

I keep getting notices to be peoples "friend"
I just signed up, but haven't listed.
What is traffic like, folks?
I guess it's just like ebay, enough volume will generate bidders.

thanks Bill - Ebay sure isn't doing much for me and have very few bids. Will try a few on the big "O" and see. wish I could go through Vendio, as would be easier for me. I have that down pat for what I need out of it. I have so much to learn right now, between click and ship, html and now O. You people are wonderful in helping out and volunteering your time and patience. You sure came through for Jack yesterday.

japerton: at the present, the ratio of buyers to sellers is much better than eBay. I am having many more lookers on the few items that I have listed with counters, than I had in the last few months on eBay.

niel: If you decide to list, don't get discouraged. It is not easy at first, especially if you don't set up an auction template with your regular info and fill in your needed info and then cut and paste into the description. The CEO and others on the message boards are doing their best to smooth things out but they are being overwhelmed. I hope and believe that OS may become an alternative to eBay.

Ralphie & I are a'rooting for the big O but we be gun-shy after the fizzles at CANABY, etc...

Tom, I sure hope not.
If Overstock starts to flounder, maybe you can rig up a cask of booze on Ralphie and send him out for a rescue.

They're making phone calls to sellers with over 300+ feedbacks on eBay and offering $25 in listing credits. I got mine on Friday. I'll be listing like crazy. Their fees are lower than ebays. I paid 23 cents for a $7.00 item. Not too shabby. I do agree the html needs to be worked out. The spacing is wacky.
All-in-all, I'm happy with them.

Hi...It'll be great if Overstock can take off.
I read somewhere that if one uses Turbo Lister for listing, to write out the listing, then copy it all...and list on Overstock.
Among several challenges with overstock is their categories..ie ... type in the search... antiques or vintage or elgin watch.
How long will buyers put up with it.
I truly hope Overstock can bring competition to eBay.

Hi
I listed 20 items, one has a bid, and the most expensive item I listed was 165.99 and the listing fee was 1.58, I don't think that is bad.
I like the listing page but it would be nice if the category selection could be more broken down to be specific, but in time I'm sure that will happen.
For a New site I feel Overstock is doing very good in many areas for us sellers and I hope they continue to grow.
I have tried many other auction sites but nothing ever happened, there was no traffic so it was just a waste of time.
I would like to find out why would people send you a.........friend invite?........what would be the reason for that. I have received a few invites but I don't know weather to accept or decline

So let's say Overstock becomes ANY sort of competition for eBay....what prevents eBay from buying them up and Ebay's back to being the only player. I don't get all the hype about having a competitor. Yes, its better to have competition. I've wanted it long ago (back in 1997!) but is it really possible if Yahoo or Amazon can't do it?
Brick and mortar real estate businesses have always been location, location, location.
But Internet auctions and stores appears to always have been and probably will be
who's first, who's first, who's first!
Selling may be good on overstock for awhile where the ratio of seller to buyer is in favor of the seller but eBay was at one time also. And if you sell antiques and collectibles (which started eBay), will a place called "overstock" be psychologically the best name to sell under?

toybuyer: I'm not worrying about what's going to take place at some distant point in the future. I'm selling things on Overstock that were not selling on eBay.

So far I've listed 11 items and have one with a bid - but two people have had a bidding war on that one and got the price up. Yippee! I am tired of one bid auctions on eBay.
Hope you all have good luck at the big O!

I think it is a nice feature on Overstock that an auction gets extended a few minutes if a bid is placed toward the end of the auction.
There seems to be too many snipers, bottomfeeders, and watchers on eBay to make it worthwhile to start an item at a very low price - and then feel like ending items early if there are no bids.

Toybuyer,
It's entirely conceivable, in fact highly probable, that Ebay will try to buy Overstock if they become a threat, and smother them. I feel a more likely scenario would be for Google or AOL to attempt to buy them before they reach the point of being a serious enough threat to Ebay to prompt meg to drag out her checkbook. I feel that Ebay is getting to the point that they are going to have to use extreme caution in acquiring competing sites, and keep a sharp eye out for any possible anti-trust probes from the Justice department. This could slow them down a little, whereas Google has an open field ahead of them for the forseeable future.

I have also had enough sales to warrant a second round of listings. I have had no problem with html in my listings, altough I use the same one as for ebay with the exception of linking my overstock auctions. Looks great
Watch out ebay. You better take notice. This powerseller may be jumping ship if the trend continues.

Has anyone tried to search on Overstock in the last 24 hours?? Their search engine has gone berserk!
type in bowling shoes and get everything but!
click to search by price and get a mish-mash.
I would say this does not bode well for the week. Looks like from their discussion boards, search has been hosed all night.

From what I understand they're installing more computers and servers? They've been bogged down. The response has been better than they ever hoped for. I'm selling hardly anything on eBay, but I am selling things on Overstock.

itray: The search engine also searches subtitles at the present. That is why you get strange things when you search. They are working on it. I have written twice to Patrick (the CEO) and received answers. Try that with Meg and don't hold your breath waiting for an answer.
