Hi!
I mostly sell lower price items ($10-$30) and
I'm selling an expensive piece of art for a friend of mine... Any things to watch out for when using PayPal? I specified I'd only ship to confirmed addresses... any other way to prevent a "charge back"? Any way I can get (excuse my langauge) screwed excepting CC payments? And what, if anything, I can do to prevent it?
Thanks in advance!
Steve

Accept either a money order, cashiers check or check.

Ship the item via UPS with signature required.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

The most important rule for PP from a seller's perspective is:

"Never accept an amount greater than what yer able to EAT"

HOW expensive??

Remember, NOTHING is guaranteed with PP &, although one can MINIMIZE exposure to CC fraud & chargebacks by following the rules, ya cannot ELIMINATE it 100%

If over $250, not only do ya need ONLINE TRACKING, but ya also are required to obtain a SIGNATURE upon delivery.

YOU have to decide for yerself yer CUT-OFF amount -- what amount you could survive LOSING!

Are you experienced enough to safely pack and crate this item? If not, get a price from a pro to do it for you.

Why bother with Paypal if it such a hassel with all its BS rules? Why not just quite accepting Paypal so there will be no more stress if a dishonest winners will rip you off or not? Dump them and set yourself free. Accept checks, money orders or cash!!!

WOW!
That was fast!
Looking at the suggestions, I might just not accept PP for this item... it recently went for $3500 at a "live" eBay auction...
I've done this for awhile, so packing isn't a problem... but I like the UPS w/sig required suggestion!
Thanks everyone!

UPS signature does not protect you 100% from chargeback.
What they are suggesting to you is to skip paypal and direct credit card payment and go with cashier check or money order .
If he insists on paying with credit card, tell him to use auction payment.com and pay his fee for him.

It will be higher than the Bidpay limit. I agree with the others, don't accept Paypal or CC payment for this item. A serious collector will have no problem paying with a cashiers check. There's a possibility he may want to pay with a company or personal check. He can have that check certified by his bank (even though they will try to tell you that it can't be done). I'm assuming that since it sold recently for a large sum, you will be able to produce evidence of authencity?

whatever you do, DON'T ship it FedEx unless you have it independently insured!

Thanks again everyone!
I think I understand the UPS Signature risks... and I agree, it might be best to just skip PP on this auction...

And sparkz,
I think you're right on- someone that's a collector and wants the item will have no problem with a cashier's check... And it does have a "Authenticity Paper" right on the piece itself.

I've offered Escrow.com as an option if the buyer is hesitant...
You've all been a terrific help! I was a little afraid to offer PP as an option, and I thank you all for "pushing me" to the right decision!

Thanks again!
