Hi...in the past I know this was discussed.
Just recently, on one of our eBay sites, listed some item with and others without gallery. It was a surprise, but non-gallery were receiving more hits, and bids.
So, on our primary name, we did a week long no gallery...these were items we've sold before and have a good idea of the ending value...they also received more bids, about 19% closed higher than usual. The remainder showed the same sell through and average price.
Maybe its the time of the season, more lookers.
Anyone else have info or ideas?
thanks

I'd like to think it works that way, but I know what little I shop, I ONLY shop via the gallery.

We are mainly sellers, and my rule of thumb is, that if the item isn't worth a gallery picture, it isn't worth posting.

But, I think your test is interesting, and I think I'll give it a test.

KEEP us updated on how you find this is working in the long haul.

Thanks!

You may be on to something - especially in categories where EVERYONE has a gallery - a buyer can flip through pages and see at a glance if he is interested in the gallery items..but one without a gallery is a mystery and may get more clicks ( especially with a good title) than items WITH a gallery...maybe buyers are looking for rookie sellers who don't know the value of what they have??? I noticed that my sell through rate is LOWER when ebay offers penny galleries...

Hi jwpc...I thought that way...we tested a couple of years ago, and gallery produced more.
So, when it first showed this, thought something was wrong.
Another powerseller, I talk with in the mid-west...lists everything at .99 no gallery.
She's told me that it forces the market, and her overall fees are less that 7%.
Neglus...maybe there is something...kind of hate to risk it during this season.
thanks for the insights

I found that eBay gallery was too expensive, I sell mostly low cost craft magazines. I have gone to Vendio gallery. I figure someone only has to click on one of my auctions, and they can easily see the rest of them. If I am selling a more valuable collectible, then I use the eBay gallery.

Interesting discussion! I tend to think like Neglus on this--that an item with no gallery shot is a mystery. I know that sometimes when I'm shopping for a collectible, I'll click where no picture is showing because it's a mystery for me to solve.

Like others, though, I'm reluctant to give up the gallery just yet.

My wife's from the midwest. Very nice people there. Very wholesome.
They use words like 'Cripes' 'For Cripes sake.' Who would that be; Jesus Cripes? The son of 'Gosh' of the church of 'Holy Moly'? I'm not making fun of it. You think I wanna burn in 'Heck'?

I realized this about a year ago. What is happening is bidders window shop. They look at the little photo and bypass it and look at the one with the camera icon. Even if it is the same item, what happens is since the bidder is already in your auction and looking at the item, they simply place the bid instead of backing out and looking at the previous auction they looked at. For the price, gallery simply isn't worth it unless they have a one cent special. IMHO, it should be free anyway.
