I bought a set of computer cd games for my daughter on ebay. There is one that she really likes and was playing on it for quite a while. (My daughter is ADHD, and it's hard to find something that will hold her attention for a while.) It's a cd of math games and my little girl is exceptionally gifted at math, so I really need to get this problem corrected.
She played the game for a while with no problems. When she went into another section of the games, a square came up that it made some type of error and I had to close it out. I checked the details and it came up something like rumdll.exe was the problem. When I closed the game out and went back in, the sound was gone. (I checked to make sure that it wasn't my speakers, and it's not.) I rebooted and still no sound. I tried to uninstall and then reinstall and still no sound.
Is there any way that I can get the sound going on this cd for her? I'll buy her another one if I have to, but I would like to see if I can get the sound working again.

Does the package say that it's for windows 3.1 95 98 or does it say something like 98 2000 XP ? What are the system requirements for this software? What does the package say? If you can give the exact error message of what files you are missing, that will help too.

You probably received a "rundll" error. From what I understand, Rundll is a small program that plays a key function in getting dynamic link library, or DLL, files to do their thing. It allows programs to use peripherals and devices attached to your PC.
Rundll may be getting hung up because it has been clobbered by malicious code, either a virus or a Trojan horse. So if you have Virus Software on your PC, update your anti-virus definitions, and scan your system.
You may also want to try uninstalling the game and reinstalling it and then reboot.
Good luck!

Good Call cta, that's where I was going with this too. I thought if we had more info, it would help pinpoint what is happening.
You also might want to clean out your temp files (cache) and run spybot search & destroy and your updated virus scan, if you have it. I have seen spyware and viruses in temp files and temp internet files. Cleaning those out would be my first step.
If you are truly getting a rundll.exe error,
the link below to Mcafee. On the left side of the page is a free download of their virusscan. You can download it and run it. Save it to your desktop. After it is downloaded, Click on it to install and then run it.

I have McAfee Clinic for both viruscan and firewall. I did run another viruscan program, but my system came up clean.
I was playing with the software a bit more and found what the problem was. After clicking, clacking and much cursing (under my breath and away from little ears, of course), I hit something, found that the sound was turned off for the program, turned it back on and now it works.
Sheesh ...
Thank you so much for your responses and the wonderful help that I continually receive from this board. Now my little one can happily play her game.
