Just FYI If you Live In A Power Failure Area, Or experience 2 or 3 power failures a year.

Because we are full time e-commerce, with 4+ web sites, (plus eBay & other auction sites) we have to have immediate backup for our satellite connection (cable and DSL) are not available in our area. So we keep 2 separate land line systems, and then our networked satellite connection (which works great except in very bad weather.)

The back up land lines are a life saver, and naturally are tax deductible.

We are planning to purchase 2 battery back up systems, which can have power supplied via a separate GENERATOR (which we keep for possible power outages). We don’t want to directly connect to a generator for computer power, as GENERATORS normally have surge times, so if they are only used to power a battery, then the battery hooked to the computer system, you eliminate the surge problem of the generator.

Battery backups will only supply power for a limited amount of time, therefore to work continually, you do have to have an alternate source of electric power like a generator.

Living in the DEEP South, we do have hurricane strength winds once in a while, and other power outages, so that is why we have always had a separate generator, if for nothing else than to power our refrigerator and deep freeze. When the last hurricane came through we were without power for about 2 days, and that is when we decided to add batteries to our back up systems so that we could also power the computers safely via the generator, through batteries made specifically for powering computers.

2 days without computer power can put us WAY behind in responding to e-mail, and keeping up with sales.

Just thought I'd pass the above on, incase others might be in a quandary as to how to always have safe computer power in any weather or disaster.

I see nothing wrong with your system except to say there some very good surge protectors on the market, that could be used. Also, there are constant volt transformers. At one time we lived in an old house where the AC cuerent would fluctuate, & this really was hard on TV. I put in a constant volt transformer @110 Volts & it solved the problem.

3 or 4 years ago a family in upstate,ny bought a good surge protector. They went on vacation and the area they live in had a couple of thunder and lightning storms. When they got back they turned on the computer and everything was working okay...the problem was the house around it burned down.
