Head vase--$18.00 + tax at a local antique store. Ebayed it for a little less that $1,000.00.
But other than that, this summer was way below normal for purchases. Sales too.

My Best Find this summer!
I went to a auto parts store to get an oil filter for my car.
And found a $100.00 bill on the floor!

Libra,
Just the reverse here. I was barbecueing in the back yard in my shorts and t-shirt in 90+ degree weather one week, and bundled up inside the next waiting out a storm that dumped 4 feet of snow in the Mountains 30 miles east of us. It skipped Autumn altogether this year. As far as my best find, I have several possibilities, but I won't start listing them till November so I don't know yet which will be the best.

This summer I purchased a CD collection for $200 - A lot of rare and imported stuff. Still selling from it, I expect to profit around 3 or 4 thousand dollars from it. The most expensive CD sold for over $140 all by itself.

ebayvet- Which CD sold for $140.00? That's great. My summer find was an LP from the 60's featuring an interview with Frank Lloyd Wright. I paid $1.00 for it at a thrift shop and got $307.00 for it! Then, I found ANOTHER one!! I wish I had more finds like that...

awesome finds you guys!!!! ... i keep trying to think about what to post at this thread ... i think my best 'find' for this summer, was the millersburg bullseye and loop pattern vase that max40 ID'ed here for me! ... it sold for almost $300 and I found it at my father-in-law's antique shop estate ... my father-in-law had had a price label on it that said, "fine old vase $40"

I found a couple of bottles. Really good bottles. It took hours of digging, and over an hour more to chip away through cement-like clay to free them from their 100-year old resting place. A similar one sold for around $250 on eBay over a year ago.

My best summer find was the Gouda vase I asked about on here. Whether it was Art Deco, etc.
It sold for over $100. Cost me $1.00.
Second best was the Heisey syrup jug. It only sold for a little bit over $40 but since it cost me a whole quarter I figure it qualifies as a find.

Congrats Steve, I had a friend who was a bottle collector. I started digging with him. Bottle collecting is contagious. Too fun to find treasures in the trash!
Did you know that certain sites are off limits due to (literally) contagious disease?? We have a town here in the Panhandle that was wiped out in the late 1800's by smallpox. If you are caught diggin in the old city dump, you can be fined and jailed due to the possibility of reactivating the virus!
As for the bottle collecting BF, I decided to leave him in the dumps <g>.
Picked up my best deal last year from a trash pile. Had gone to a yard sale that was the pits, but as I drove away I saw their neighbor cleaning out her garage. She dumped a wooden box on the curb. I thought it would come in handy in my garage, so I picked it up. It turned out to be a Captain Morgan's Rum display box. I ebayed it for $55. Yipee!
There is a downside though... I've had such good luck selling "trash" that now my MIL brings me stuff she finds on her daily walk. So far it has been TRASH but who knows , maybe she'll surprise me one day.

MSLucy, you have me looking at the bottom every ugly vase I see. That Gouda was a great find and I know that somewhere, sometime, I have had one that I probably sold for a $ or2.
My biggest mistake... Early on, when I had my shop, I bought a rookwood piece but did not know what it was. Sold it for $25. I had a very loyal customer after that. The vase was worth about $1K. I soon learned a lot about pottery.

My best find was upstairs in my store. I've been cleaning out my old office/storage room and found a 1 gallon jar of marbles that I had bought at auction several years ago. The auction ticket said that I paid $1 for it and I've been selling them in groups of 100+ for at least $5 each. (I think that I have sold around 10 groups so far.) In the bottom of the jar were several marbles all wrapped together in plastic wrap, not visible from the outside, that I haven't listed yet. The only ones that I recognize in this group are a couple of Bumble Bees. It will be interesting to see what they bring when I am tired of looking at them.

A couple of years ago I found a Bird Chair & Ottoman in a thrift store for $35. I listed it and sold it for $500 but the guy had 16 negatives out of 20 FB's so I wouldn't take his paypal and he never sent the promised money order. I relisted it in September of this year and got $1150.00 for it. Timing is everything!!!

Really had no good summer finds. Yard sales here are drying up, and the thrift shop stuff is going mostly to the dealers who help there.
But yesterday! I arrived 5 hours late to a little garage sale. Poked around, saw essentially nothing but was looking at some books and pamphlets. Owner said they were all free, so I chose 7 or 8 and then, feeling guilty, bought a couple dollars' worth of refrigerator magnets and a shelf I can use. The books and pamphlets should sell fairly well on Ebay--and they were free! (Still out in my car--too lazy to bring them in yesterday, LOL.)
