You can bet that in the begining of 2005 all carriers will increase charges. It happens every year. The extra charges that UPS & FedEx have been putting in for extra fuel costs will be incorporated in the new charges.

You can bet FedEx will follow suit. They dropped the fuel surcharge on Ground shipments last January, and with fuel prices skyrocketing, I'm surprised they have not restored it. I've been waiting for the hammer to drop any day.

USPS won't raise til 2006, they won't even submit an increase proposal until 2005. Then it takes about a year to happen. On the downside, it will probably be a big increase this time around - I've hard as much as 45 cents for first class mail, who knows what priority mail will be.

If you're using UPS in the new year, be careful with the charge for insurance on packages valued between $100.01 and $300.00.
I received a notice yesterday stating insurance will be 40 cents per $100 over the first $100 value, with a $1.20 minimum charge for insurance on packages between $100.01 and $300.00

I'm sure you are right. They have to do something about all of us who are paying their bills online thus avoiding having to pay high postage rates. I wouldn't mind so much, but it recently took one week to get a letter from Lakewood to Cleveland. They are cities that sit side-by-side. In fact, on a good day, I could walk there.
