I just got a paypal electronic transfer - is this new? It's from a international buyer.
I wonder how long it will take to clear?

This sounds like an E Check, these take about 4 business days to clear. I never ship until P/P shows transaction complete.

I've had some e checks take 10 days or more to clear. Why, I don't know so I don't really like to get them. Takes longer to get paid than regular mail almost.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

That's all I use.
It's a little interesting trying to re-edu-ma-cate people, but until I can differentiate between fee necessary paypal for cc's and fee non-necessary I won't pay extra for simple transactions.
sorry Ebay, d'ya hear me megster?

those who pay are subsidising those who do not, even e check involves expenses.

This is not an e check, I've had those before.
This is what I got. I have removed the names but this is what it says:
Notification of a Pending PayPal Payment by Bank Transfer
Dear xxxxx (me)
The sender, xxxxxxxx has received the information necessary to complete a PayPal payment by transfer to you on Nov. 11, 2004 .
Payment Details
Sender: xxxxxxxxx
Recipient: xxxxxxxxx
Payment Initiated: Nov. 11, 2004
Amount in EUR: $40.50 USD
It is now the sender's responsibility to complete the payment. If the transaction is not completed within seven days, the sender will automatically receive a reminder email from PayPal.
If the payment is still pending after 30 days, the transaction will be automatically cancelled.

Transactions that are eligible for coverage under the Seller Protection Policy will say Seller Protection Policy Eligible on the Transaction Details page of a payment.
When a transaction is eligible for protection under the Seller Protection Policy, you must follow these guidelines to be protected against fraudulent chargebacks:
Have a Verified Business or Premier account
That means the lefties account is a personal one because he is not paying fees. Are chargebacks worth it because you are never covered.
