Regarding Pvt. Ryan, I don't think it has a lot to do with vulgarity.
Remember that Colin Powell's son is head of FCC. Could it be that the powers in Washington do not want the American public to see some reality regarding war.
After all, this administration doesn't even allow the news media to meet the dead heroes' when they bring them home in the flag draped coffins.
I think they want to keep the war as sanitized as possible - lest we actually think about the situation.

Of course the Big Brother doesn't want the public to know what combat is really like. The shock would be too great. Let them go patrol in the middle of the night back when there was such thing as Starlite scopes etc. & find your self behind the enemy. That can empty your bowels.
